nice work mick, 48.5cm wild bass would have gone pretty hard on 6lbs
Hi guys, well after a weekend up at Coochin Creek last weekend with out a legal fish boated I couldn't pass up the opportunity to hit the bass on the northern side!
When I arrived at Roskos place I was greeted with "I went back there the other night and caught a 48cm Bass!" Here I am thinking a 40cm bass was big!
We left early to explore some new ground and exploring we did! Crawling on our guts through lantana (wearing shirt and shorts), finding pig tracks and waiting to stumble across someones crops, we found some nice looking water but we can only hit it with the yaks! Sun was getting low so we headed to our spot. As usual there wasn't any action till after dark, cant remember who caught the first but we didn't have to wait long. I think Rosko was in the lead with a 40cm caught on a Jitterbug and my first few were on bubble pop 45. My first PB was a 43cm bass on the bubble pop and was happy with that. I tied a buggi pop on and first cast with that I get nailed and pulled in a 2nd PB at 45cm These lures are only small and it just about sucked the thing into its stomach. A few more bass in the high 30's were landed and it was getting late so I checked the time... 8:30 Oops was ment to be home at 8! On the way out we stopped at another spot and I chucked Roskos black jitterbug on and cast out. Wind in a bit, pause and repeat. I stopped it in the moon light and BANG.. missed The hooks... BANG I'm on!!! Ohh a bit of weight to it. I finally get him in and its a bloody good one! The bank drops off about 50cm so we couldn't beach it and Roskos many attempts at gently lifting it out of the water failed I managed to belly lift him up for a quick pic and measure... Well what do ya know, 48.5cm Bass 5mm bigger then Roskos and on his lure!!! All bass were caught on 6lb braid and all were released
Cheers, Mick.

Sounds like a great session Mick , A pb of 48.5cm might be hard to beat but good luck .I increased my PB to 40cm last wednesday evening , which is a long way from 48.5 .
Kepp those reports coming .

Thanks guys, I thought a bass that big would have gone harder. I 've caught jacks smaller which have put up a better fight. But in saying that I have been using a double bimini tied to a 12lb leader. Doing this I can really tighten up my drag with out the braid cutting my leader! Will be testing this out on the jacks next week.
Cheers, Mick.
