    Copeton Waters Camping

We were camping at Glenlyon Dam last Christmas and this year we have booked a camping site at Copeton Waters / Dam which is about 40kms from Inverell. Is there anyone here that has stayed at this Park that can provide us with any comments on the Park and facilities, and of course the fishing. The dam is evidently only 10% full and you have to drive from the park to get to the dam.

    Thanks

    Re: Copeton Waters Camping

Hi Ron, the facilities at Copeton are EXCELLENT!

If you choose to stay up in the cabin/camping section at top of dam near kiosk etc, then you will have a 5min drive down to the water.

If camping there is a lot of shade up the top, or you could camp down on the waters edge (no shade) & drive back up to the amenities for shower. There are about 4 amenity blocks around the dam. We stay down at 'sepoy' end on the water and do the morning/night amenity run.

Its been a month or so since I was last there, we did most of our fishing around the main basin, wall side. (which is a fair run from Sepoy & we would camp around main side next time with water so low) Mainly becauase we lure & troll we did well trolling around the 12ft mark along the shoreline - but if you are a bait fisho - head up the river and timber galore!

Still plenty of water let me tell ya! 100ft deep - first time I ever went to Copeton with a sounder I thought it was faulty! ...lol

Some of the local guys might be able to help with whats working at the moment.

Have a look at these sites - not sure if you have kids to keep entertained, but there is plenty for them to do too.

There are a couple of rainwater tanks around the dam, but its very dirty water, and taste like s*** - so if this is important make sure you take plenty of your own drinking water.

Oh & watch out for the prop eaters!
