Hi fisho's
Heading up to Tannum on 5-12 for a week after a week at Monduran,,, staying at the park near the beach.... Never been there before so any good oil on the crabbing & how its fishing at the moment would be greatly appreciated...

Tannum... nice....the CVP down near wild cattle creek.....luxury.

Havn't fished it, but been for a look with the MRS...I have been informed we will be returning.
CVP accomodation approved.

Wild cattle creek ( not a creek at all) is almost unnavigable on the low ( walk boat ramp from CVP), but casting on foot potential very high..... miles of sand with runoff channels.....lots of flathead lies.

lots of mangroves up further, so there would have to be crabs, but there would be plenty of competition from the locals.

miles of beach out front with some rock outcrops, light surf casting.

The boyne isn't far away ( can walk if you are reeeealy keen) lots fish of the bank there in the arvo.

The lady at the tourist information centre is "on to it", drop in there on the way in... good free maps marine park documents.

lots of oportunities a short drive.

Tannum beachfront SHMBO approved.

A nice place even if you catch bugger all... take the repellent and the mozzie coils.

You'd have to be insane to stay there especially in summer as the sandflies will carry you away.

I don't know that we have anybody actually in tannum......there is a bloke over at Benaraby......but that is closed to awonga.

have you confirmed you booking at the CVP yet.....I'm sure they would know.

Mate just found your thread and i have fished that area alot before i moved into gladstone. if you head 100m to the upstream side (right when facing the water) of wild cattle boat ramp about and hour or two after high tide to be able to access the banks you will find some yabbies (in between the boat ramp side and a little island) then head out to the mouth as the tide comes up from dead low you should find a few flatties, whiting, trevally, dart, ect. there is also a track that will take you to the front of wild cattle island which is straight across from the boat ramp the front beach is only about 200m from the boat ramp itself. or you could try throwing some plastics around the rock bar that is close to the creek mouth. wild cattle is not a big muddie producer but you may find an odd one around, try to focus more on the sand crabs. look for the deep ponds at low tide and trow them in them. ive caught a few straight off the boat ramp also. hope this helps mate let me know how you go

Baz, I've only put pots in the boyne twice and have never done that good, if your keen for a feed of muddies go right up wild cattle creek (to a place called colosseum) at high tide (but you will be up there till the next high tide) and have a crack there you can reach some good crabbing grounds , but beware there is a rock bar on the way that you will not see at high water so i suggest looking at google earth and try to scope it out a bit better. Good fishing and plenty of bait to throw a cast net at. The boyne river is a hard spot to fish if you haven't spent alot of time fishing it because of the limited fresh water flow, we haven't had much rain and they don't let water out of the dam to flush it but it is a nice river to spend the day on.

Worth a test .
Walk across the road from the CVP through the park on the left
straight down onto the sand and start throwing poppers,
making your way towards the rocks and back, on the last of the run out, morning or afternoon is best.
We have caught Queenfish and Barra right there.
Unreal fun if they are on.
They should be as it is the time of year for them.
The Queenfish.
Barra are out of season remember (Never mind).

Hi Barry

I've got a mate who lives on Boyne Island right on the river & he has been doing well with the muddies lately. Wild Cattle creek is navigable at high tide & there is plenty of country to explore once your down in the Colosseum system, depending on your boat & the weather you can access this system from outside. Have a good look on Google maps. Will talk more when I see you at Mondy in a few days.
