The Honourable Tim Mulherin

Applications called for fisheries advisory group
Applications are now being called for positions on the newly formed Queensland Fisheries Advisory Committee (QFAC).
Minister for Primary Industries, Fisheries and Rural and Regional Queensland, Tim Mulherin said this new single advisory committee would replace the previous seven fishery-specific Management Advisory Committees (MACs).
"In March this year, the Government accepted the recommendation of an independent review into government bodies to reform and streamline Management Advisory Committees.
"As a result the previous fisheries MACs are being replaced by this single strategic committee.
"This is an excellent opportunity to establish a single, open, transparent committee with a strong strategic focus on the management of all aspects of Queensland's fisheries," Mr Mulherin said.
QFAC's objective will be to provide advice on fisheries matters that will then be considered by Fisheries Queensland and the Government.
"It is anticipated that appointments to the committee will represent the broad range of Queensland fisheries resource users and other community stakeholders," Mr Mulherin said.
"This committee will allow the Government to make well-informed decisions on how fisheries issues should be managed now and into the future.
"We are looking for people who can demonstrate a good knowledge or experience of a relevant community sector and who can reflect the views of those they represent.
"I am excited about working with this new advisory group in order to achieve sustainable fisheries for all Queenslanders," Mr Mulherin said.
Applications are invited from individuals, or may be nominated by associations and organisations. Membership applications close on 8 January 2010and on selection, members will be appointed for a three-year term.
There will be a maximum of 12 members including one Fisheries Queensland staff member.
