Worms in trevally

Caught a nice Golden Trevally on Sunday and brought it home for the table. Apon filleting the fish i noticed in the shoulder some of the flesh had been eaten out! I looked under the rib cage and there were several large white worms looking pretty comfortable. They were about 3 or 4 inches long but very thin and pure white. So i knocked of some partial fillets trying to avoid the area the worms seemed to have munched on. Questions are:
Has anyone seen this before? Did you still eat it?
Its on a plate in the freezer but i dont know if its safe to feed the family?

Struck it once only Rob, in a silver trev from Forresters Beach NSW. I didn't want to eat it, but my grandfather didn't have a problem and he'd been fishing the area since the 1920's. He died 2 years later at the age of 94 - prob can't attribute that to the trev tho.
I would think safe to eat.

When we caught large trevally off the Central Coast NSW 8-10kg fish a few years back,they were referred to as blocks of flats because of all the holes in the flesh.
These we were told are not worm holes and are actually a replacement for a swim bladder were as the fish is full of air in the flesh to keep it upright.I cant remember ever finding a worm. Found plenty in jew, even cooked and eaten those but if in doubt Rob dont do it.

very common for Trevally to have those air pocket looking cavities, but I can't say I have ever seen worms in them, and I have filleted hundreds.

i have seen it a lot on goldens caught in the NT just how you described.
just cook them well and youll be right. cheers

Mate i caught a couple of Fraser Island and Full of worms !!
Put me off eating them.

Now they are just a sports fish !

Found the same thing with King Fish...but not all of them.

very common in Golden Trevally (the only ones worth eating I reckon), fillet it normally riddled with these holes in fish over 2-3kg, never worried me, never chacked for worms but, they'll just be a bit of extra protein once cooked up anyway.
