    Tingalpa Cobia?

    Hi All,
I wanted to take my little girl fishing this morning, so we hit Tingalpa Creek to chase some Flatties. Out the mouth of the creek has always been a good producer for flathead for us, but today, we didn't land a single legal flattie.
Interestingly enough, I did catch a small cobia!!!!

Despite it's size, I actually thought I was on to a huge flathead! It gave a GREAT account of itself.

Also picked up a nice Estuary Cod at a spot where I've pulled a few in the past. Decided to keep this one so as not to go home empty handed...

    Anyway... the pic:

They're great looking fish at that size with their distinct white stripes. I remember catching one very similar to that years ago up boggy creek in the Brissie River - they must spawn around the mangroves and mudflats?

They must. I've read about them on here recently, with people catching them in esturies up on the Sunshine coast, but I would NEVER have called it for a Cobe in Tingalpa Creek. That said, over the last couple of years, we've (my son and I) have actually caught quite a range of species out of that very small system.

    Thats Amazing

I have fished in and around Tingalpa creek for more than 25 years and I would have never have thought that you would catch a cobia in the area.

    Neither would I!

It was just upstream from where Lota creek joins in.

If anything other than a Flathead, I was thinking small jew. I was shocked.

Interesting catch. Its a shame that the Councils allow it to be used as a drain and sewer outlet. It could be a brilliant fishery right on our doorstep
