    First maroochy river jack

    Hi,

After tangling with jacks in the mooloola I decided to go to one of my jew/flatty/trev spots that hasn't been fishing very well lately just for a change, see what's on the chew there.

I'd been fishing for over an hour, had already lost one plastic/jighead to a snag when something hit my lure, it then sat there not moving. I was able to pull it towards me slowly with my thumb on the spool, then all of a sudden it started to fight, ran me under a rock and I was snagged... What!?

I tied on another head and a plastic, figuring I'd push on for another 30 minutes to when the tide was starting to slow. A couple of casts later I received a very good hit and what turned out to be a very aggressive fight. It tried hard to snag me, but I was armed with my #1 outfit and thankfully won the fight.

The result, my first maroochy river jack at a healthy 43cm. I caught it on the northern side of the river near the cod hole.

Here's hoping for more of the same from the Noosa river next week

Just the 'old' 110mm flick bait, 3/8 head.. I think the colour is flash prawn? It's a translucent brown packed with speckles.

The hit/snagged lure beforehand was in the gold speckle colour.

I don't think I've ever seen so much bait in the maroochy. Along the stretch between the bridge and bli bli they were EVERYWHERE. There was something smashing them up, but JUST out of casting distance.

The Mojiko rod is a true jem. It's phenomenally good. I was a bit hesitant buying it, but I'm so very glad that I did. It'll cast 5g as easy as 30g, it loads up very well and it's as light as a feather.
I've been looking for a replacement rod for my dropshop tournament pro as I find it too long, but do you think I can find anything that measures up to the Mojiko for under $250? Nope... So I might just end up buying a second one.

They're in at Anaconda for $90, but they're usually happy to do a deal. I can only suggest you go have a look at one, or have a flick with mine.

They sure do, I really had to be on the ball to keep it from busing me up on the snags. I'm glad I wasn't fishing any lighter.

Truthfully, I've only caught 6 jacks to date. They've just all (but one, my first a year ago @ 30cm) been recently.

    Beginners luck?
