    Baffle Creek.

    Hi all,

A few mates and I are planning a trip to fish/crab Baffle creek in early December, and I was just curious if anyone has had any good results from that area of late.?

I've heard it's excellent crabbing, so we will have our 12 pots.

Is there any hazards, on anything that we should know about these waters having never been there before.

I was thinking of taking my new "Reel Mate" but I'm told we already have a boat to use (old half cab), so that saves towing mine all the way up.

    Thanks
    Scott

Take a boat that doesn't have much hull sitting below the waterline.. sand bars _everywhere_.

For crabbing, put your pots around the flatrock area with pillies for bait... caught us plenty last april when most others seemed to be doing it tough.

yep definitely watch out for sandbars. We were there recently and hit them constantly ( even with plenty of water). Found plenty of crabs, but only 2 legal size. There were a few flathead about, but it was pretty quiet other then that. We were told another 6 weeks and the fishing would hot up, so that pit's it early December. Good luck

Watchout for rockbars near long island and along the southern shore past bottle creek. I was there about 3 weeks ago and found good jack, anywhere where there were rocks either on bait dead or alive and gulp prawns. If you launch at flat rock don't leave your car there after dark, there are a few young ferals around.

    Re: Baffle Creek.

Rocks and bars everywehre, very hard to go anywhere after half tide down. SOmetimes livies can be impossible to get , othertimes easy. Pelagics out the front, have caught jack and cod around the entrance also. POts can be difficult with shallow water and strong winds making it dif to get to them, esp if you're checking pots on your own. Have poicked up the sweetest sandies ever straight out in front of boaga in the weed... maybe its the bat poo!
Go upstream if you want to get into jack, and basically the further hte better. Watch the rocks. As a reminder take a spare prop, the rock bars can be hazardous. Also watch out for the rocks.
    good luck

Hi mate like al the other guys said sand bars logs and rocks. I would be taking a spare prop and bushings as my mate had his trip up there cut short for this reason.

    Hi All,

Thanks for all you tips, we will be as careful as we can be. Hopefully my new stainless prop will arrive this week.

Looked at the tide guide for that weekend, and we should have high water of about 2.4 to 2.6m

Hopefully we will get some nice crabs. I have mullet frames in my freezer from our winter stradbroke trip.

    Cheers
    Scott
