Sunfish to push for rec licence ?
Why are Sunfish pushing for a Recreational Fishing Licence in Queensland ???
I have heard that they want to assist with the introduction of a rec licence. My take is that if they can do this, they will receive more funding from the government.
Has anyone else got any further info on this as it doesn't sound like the morally right thing to do.

This way fisheries will get their cash so they can do research to support an outcome that was made well in advance of the research starting. Just like they do now!

Sunfish Fraser Coast appoints New Chairman.
Sunfish Fraser Coast has a new Branch Chairman following the resignation of
Ray Ozich who is moving away from the Fraser Coast . Scott Mitchell has been
appointed Chairman. This was announced today by the Secretary of the
Branch Mr Martin Bellert .
“The Branch is extremely fortunate as Scott brings extensive fishing industry
experience to the position as well as experience in the Management of
Recreational Fishing.
Scott has fished extensively around Australia & some of the world’s most famous
fisheries, with a long association in the fishing tackle & media industry. Scott &
his wife Katrina foundered & operated the specialist freshwater & fly fishing
tackle store “The Alpine Angler “in Cooma NSW for 15 years.
Scott was closely involved with NSW DPI&F, being a member of the peak
advisory committee ACORF ( Advisory council of recreational fishing ) for over 12
years . Scott was involved throughout the entire recreational angling license process in NSW and management of the Recreational Fishing Licence Trust
Funds. Scott said this revenue fund had given new meaning to Recreational
Fishing in NSW & provides invaluable funding across both the Salt and Fresh
water sectors in that state.
Scott said he moved to the Hervey Bay area for a change in climate and to
enjoy the diverse fishing that the Fraser Coast offers.
Scott is also Chairperson for the Fraser Coast Fish Stocking Association as he
has always endeavoured to give back to the sport that offers so much pleasure to
so many people , along with a fresh feed of fish ! Scott is passionate about the
management of our fisheries & insists we need work with Queensland DPI&F
towards long term sustainable management for the future.
Mr Bellert said it was indeed fortunate to have such an experienced person
in the Branch.

Sunfish Considerations.
Over the past year or so, the members and regional branches of Sunfish has carefully considered and discussed the issue of general fishing licences at General Meetings and Annual General Meetings. A considerable number of the members of regional branches of Sunfish support the introduction of a general recreational fishing licence in Queensland on the strong proviso that Sunfish has a say in the use of the monies raised, and such monies are used for recreational fishing support activities and do not go into consolidated revenue.
Sunfish Position.
In summary, the issue of recreational fishing licences is getting serious discussion within the membership of Sunfish.

Blue Fins is a member of QAFCA via SQAFCA...5000 members maybe but it is a pokie palace..I bet they have trouble getting 20 members on a club trip.
So they double up on Blue Fin membership??
They are not representative of rec anglers..they are puppets of Bligh.
I can just see their conference this weekend..in part paid for by us..all patting each other on the back and saying what wonderful folk they are.
My response to Sunfish..you suck the money from our PPV so you can all just have a DP weekend at our expense. If an RFL was implemented you would just suck money from it also for more DP times.And various people would put their hand out for some of that money cos they had to travel to get there..nothing but bloody parasites and leeches on our money.
I have no respect for anyone in that mob that has accepted any money for that conference or any other purpose..as a matter of fact..complete and utter disdain for those people. Watch ya wallets boys..Sunfish is after it.
The problem with a general recreational fishing licence is that a lot of the money collected is wasted in admin costs. It impinges on and penalises the basic right to wet a line or set a crab pot on a public beach, river or creek bank.
Other recreational users of waterways such as water skiers and jet skiers would not be paying to use the marine environment because a recreational fishing licence would see the PPV levy removed.
The PPV levy collects revenue off all registered recreational boat users and is a much fairer and efficient method of revenue raising to cover the cost of monitoring and enforcement activities associated with boating and fishing.
The impact on the environment by boating activities is much greater than sitting fishing on a pontoon, river or creek bank or fishing off the beach.
Maybe I am missing something or maybe I just getting too old and cranky

I also notice in the Sunfish media release that Scott was appointed. I thought that in most representative bodies that office bearers were elected not appointed. Does not say much for the rights of the members.
