Lake Baroon info for FW virgin

Hey some mates have invited me to a social freshwater fishing comp at baroon dam early Feb and am in some dire need of help as I have never fished freshwater

I generally fish SW for lizards, bream, snaps, and have soft plastic gear and some bigger hard bodies for the flatty.

if anyone has any suggestions on baits, lures, softies that are ideal for bass and saratoga that would be VERY much appreciated.

Also if there are any particular areas of Baroon that fish better or any particular FW signs/structure/depths to look out for, again would be great. Don't want exact locations but something to give me a chance of finging some fish.

I'm hoping to head up there and get a prefish in some time Jan so will put a post out if anyone else is keen to join me but any info would be great to give me a start.

    Cheers

Hi mate, never fish the area but your bream flattie gear will be fine. Bass and Togas love surface lures in low light times so any small poppers or fizzers will work.
Bass like small hardbodies, spinnerbaits and light soft plastic presentations worked close around structure or weed beds during the high light periods.

Again not knowing the area, if there is fish holding in the deep water u can see schooling on the sounder, small blades and ice jigs worked virtically or slow retrieve across the bottom will work well.

    Togas love overhanging Bottlebrush.

    Hope this helps a bit.

    Pete.

    Hey mate,

This Dam is a very picturesque and very unfished dam, mainly due to restrictions. I used to fish there a hell of alot about a year ago and a bad days fishing we pulled up approx 50 Bass, easy. Since then we had alot of rain which pushed alot of Bass over the Dam wall. This really impeded the fishing quality however haven't been there since so might of improved?

The points always produced massive schools, especially next to the boat ramps and along the rock walls further up the dam on the left. Other areas that produced were in near the restricted zone, along the trees and also in the small bay up the dam, to the right, opposite the rock wall.

Lipless lures, ice jigs and the most deadly where 'terminator snap backs' soft plastics in yellow.

Anyway, good luck.. and if you need other info send me a PM.

Thanks for the tips guys that's a great start!

I'll need to invest in some more lures. blades etc. Good excuse to go to BCF anyway!!!

I'll give you a PM wooly as it gets closer and I might see if I can coax you into a trip early next year if you're around?

    Cheers

Baroon Pocket dam has some fairly heavy restrictions. No lead sinkers, which also means no lead jig heads, or lead lures. This would effectively rule out Spinnerbaits and most Blades with lead in them. Batteries must be sealed and secured within the boat.
