    Yak Jack...

Hey all, got an hour and half paddle in this arvo up at a Creek just north of me.
Finally hooked up to some decent Mangrove Jacks.
First one straightened a hook after a short fight.
The second was an epic battle that ended up with me and the yak wedged into a mangrove tree.
I was fighting the fish laying down as I was wedged deep in a tree, but I had to keep it out of where it wanted to go!
Crazy stuff, nearly broke my other rod crashing into trees while fighting the beast.
It ended up wedged in a branch next to me, so I was able reach down and pull it into the yak.
Just awesome. It is the biggest I have caught so far coming in at 45cm.
It was stuffed and so was I. So I kept it and had it for dinner tonight.
First jack I have kept and it tasted fantastic!

It was caught on a 65mm Rapala X-Rap, 14lb Nitlon Braid with a 16lb Line Systems leader.
Reel was the Shimano Curado 200E5 that a mate gave to me as payment for a job.
Rod was the Mojiko (Anaconda Home Brand) 8-12lb rod that my brother gave me to use!

    I'm a happy camper tonight...
    Cheers and thanks.

    Nice jack mate

How did you find the rod? I've got a 6-10kg and I love it to peices... Considering picking up the same one you've got there tomorrow.

    Re: Yak Jack...

Ha I just replied to your post mate!
The rod has been great I have been using it for about 6 weeks.
I mainly use it for larger lure trolling duties in the yak.
Has landed some nice fish with no fuss at all.
It is a two piece though which I found a bit weird, but that is great when tangled in the yak!
The only issue I have had is that the end cap came off when washing it down.
But I just glued it back on and all is good.
It is the only baitcaster I have owned, so I might not be a good judge!
But it handled the jacks without a problem.

    Cheers.

    Re: Yak Jack...

Two piece? That is odd, all of the mojiko tournament baitcasters that I've seen have been single piece. What length is it?

My mate has the 3-7kg spin stick and it's also very very good. Nothing comes close for the money.. You'd want to spend 3x as much to gain an improvement.
