    Camping at Awonga???

    G'Day Y'all,

Headin to Awonga in January to give these Barra a crack! (First time impoundment barra fishing)

Were goin to camp it, so just wondering where we should set up base camp for the week??

Is it praticle to leave the boats in at night to make life easier, or best to take them out??

Thanks for any help from any seasoned campaigners who have regularly made the pilgramage to Awonga!!

Mate, the caravan park at Awoonga is about 1km from the boat ramp and would not recommend that you leave boats in. At the old ramp, the houseboats, tenders and some hire boats are stored and heard that a few weeks ago now gated chains were cut and a few motors etc stolen.

Very occassionally you hear of issues with vehicles however not very often.

Camping grounds are great or the Gateway cabins down the road if a comfy bed is required.

    Cheers Gaz

We done over there a couple of years ago, mongrels stole thousands worth of gear out of the boat and from around the camp while we slept.

    Pod,

Camping at the Lake Awoonga Caravan Park is great, Two minute drive to boat ramp. They have cabins as well, of varying sizes and prices. 07 4975 0155

I wouldn't leave your boat in overnight, or any tackle in boats at the camp ground, no matter where I stayed.

Another place to stay is the Gateway, about 5 - 10 minutes from boat ramp. Cabins only 07 4975 0033

January can a tough month. For a first timer, a day with one of the guides would be a good option.

    Good luck,

    Matt
