Nice golden mate, they go hard as. Beautiful place Woodgate, i have to get back up that way again.
Marty.
Went to Woodgate for a week of R&R - and a bit of fishing.....
Woodgate is between Childers & Bundaberg and is a bit of the beaten track to get there.....
Fished Walkers Point on the Monday with no luck.....
Wednesday was to be the day.....I had no intention of catching anything decent but when my surf rod bent over I knew something decent was on.....it shot up the shore line at a fast rate and I had to run up the beach with it as to not get busted of or put any pressure on a knot that might not hold.......little did I know a crowd of about 15 people had gathered to watch this fight....the bloody thing then decided to turn around and go up the shoreline in the other direction....so I gave chase...running through the surf waves....a good 25 mins later eventually I saw what it was in the surf - I yelled GT - bloody awesome....I had never caught one before....I was stoked and the 15 odd people that were watching - half wanted to have a look at the fish and the other half went across the road to the caravan park and got there own rods to have a go.....upon further assistance one of the on lookers called it for a golden trev.....it came out of the water silver in color and then turned golden under the belly.....
This is definately the highlight of the holiday......word spread around the caravan park and I was some what of a caravan park celebrity - everyone want to know how I caught it and where.....
For the record - if you walk straight out from the caravan park and turn right about 100m that is where I was....I caught it on a paternoster set-up.....with a gang-hook on the bottom with whole pilchard and a single hook with half pilchard up top....
It went 89cm and I reckon about 7-8kgs.....
I put this great catch down to being in the right place and the right time......and I just happened to have my Ausfish shirt on
Cheers,

sweet capture!!
Nice fish reddy, early christmas pressy for you...
Thanks for the report mate.
I have never caught anything that big out of the "Surf". If you were using a surf rod I bet it would have given you some curry.
The Golden Trevally go very hard at the best of time so you did well to keep it on.
Well done mate.

Great effort off the sand. They certainly go hard. Its a nice stretch of coastline from the Burrum up tp the Elliot.
