    Boating permits

I have heard that there is now ' boating ' permits required for some SEQwater dams in queensland.

I could not find the costs on their website.

Can someone link me to the costs and dams covered by this tax.... ?

    Re: Boating permits

Phil I presume you are aware of Somerset / Wyvenhoe. You have required a boat permit there for years and it only covers those dams.

    Re: Boating permits

well, I though so, but there is a difference between non-powered and electric and powered.

Apparently fuel powered boats are not allowed on Wivenhoe. ???

I have seen the website, but their costings are not listed.

    Re: Boating permits

You are correct. But the permit allows access to both. When you get the permit you get a sticker for the boat and one for the trailer. If you ring Somerset (Kirkleigh) camp they will fill you in. I get it annually about $70 I think. There is a monthly option for about half that.

I will send the link if I can find it.

    Re: Boating permits

Sorry, just having a go at the website and it's spelling

I am amazed that they can get away with this charge. Where does the money go ?

I know the S.I.P fees go to restocking....

    Re: Boating permits

Let's know when you find out.

They do deploy some buoys etc. when the water is low. I think the Somerset Regional Council take the money.

It says 'boating permit' not motor boat.

    Re: Boating permits

The boating permit must be purchased for any vessel that is carried on a trailer to Somerset or Wivenhoe. A cartopper, or a yak on your roof doesn't need one. The money goes to paying the rangers, maintaining the picnic areas, maintaining the boat ramps and all the other things we don't think about. It is administered by SEQWater. The one at Hinze is a bit different, as far as I can find out, but nobody has said it outright, is that the boating permit goes to the fish stocking group.
