    What would u do???

last week i went to put a few crab pots in during the middle of the week and as i was putting my pots in i noticed that there was pots out in a know green zoned creek. so i thought i would go and have a look at the floats to see if there was a name on them so i could pass on incase they didnt know.

well i got up to the first one and there was nothing on the floats what so ever to make it worse i kept goin further up the creek and there would of been an easy 10 pots in the green zone creek to me this guy blatently knew what he was doing as the reason why his pots werent marked.

know i really wanted to pull them and get rid of them but thought that probably wasnt a smart idea and left them. i know ringing dpi wouldnt help as they wouldnt come down that night to wait for the bugger to come and pick them up.

so in saying that what would would u fellow ausfish guys done?

Call fishwatch and report them PH-1800 017 116. I have the sticker in my boat and always have my mobile with me.

    Hi Skusto

Personally, I would not do anything, don't consider myself to be the green zone police, but, if I saw someone keeping jennies or unders, may be a different story.

    To each their own

    Cheers

If you're concerned, and you obviously are, report it.
Personally, I would not touch them under any circumstances. Of course, it would be my luck that I'd be pulling them to move them, and the Fisheries would come along...
'honestly Officer, I was just moving them because someone left them there.....'

Isn't it amazing. There is a bay full of great crabbing spots and someone has to put them where they shouldn't.
Now I know green zones are a contenious issue here.
My advice. Do what you feel comfortable with.

Maybe there Japanese and doing "Research"

    I would've reported it.

The zones are there to maintain a sustainable fishery, keep pinching from the cupboard and eventually it will be bare and the only posts we'll see from your area are "I remember when"

I think it is the DPI + Fisheries, the sticker says call to report illegal fishing activity.

    Re: What would u do???

I was launching my boat from Munna Point (Noosa) over the w'end and a young fella (prob ~10yo) came up with a small bream on the end of his line and asked me if I thought it was big enough to keep.

I told him it was a bit small and it would need to be at least 23cm. I had my ruler handy and it was 21cm, so I said he'd need to go back.

Old matey washing down his fishing kayak near us must have heard all this and said "he's good enough..."

I bit my lip as I really wanted to ask this knob how good an example he wants to set for the kid. Would the fisheries inspectors wear "good enough" before they fine you? Is that really the msg we want to pass on to the new generation of anglers?

But rather than start an argument around kids and families at the nearby beach, I thought it easier to leave it be and shake my head....

Thought this is relevant to your "what would you do" post.
