Hey Bar Up, I don"t think 6'' of crab pot throat cut is likely to be pigs. 4 throats cut in 2 pots - new pots, 1st use.
I put a complaint into fisheries in the hope if enough people complain they might sting the place. Don't take it lying down, if enough people complain maybe the situation could improve.

would be interesting to do a stakeout, wonder what fisheries would do if you gave them accurate details, ie time location, boat details etc, wonder if they would persue it, doubt it very much, your word against someone elses,or if a civil case could be brought against them?? with enough evidence

I also camp down Mission Point quite often, and all night you can hear some arsehole's 2 stroke getting around pulling pots with no lights on. What chance have you got with pricks like this around. If I ever prove this D.M. to be a thief I will name him everywhere I can after I make an artificial reef out of his tinny & 50HP motor. Not to mention what a few of us will do to his ugly head. I wonder how he'd go pulling a crab shell out his arse?
we camp at Mission a bit and there is always the same tools running no lights that seem to get about between midnight and dawn - I try not leave my pots in over night now or if i do i don't rebait them before turning in...the crab has to commit suicide.

It's a sad sign when I'm happy that at least with glassy I know my pots will still be there, emptied for me if i leave the creek, but still there. (knock on wood)

A couple of other spots in the passage are a sure thing to have your pots stolen (or floats cut)

    G'day Jim

You can still crab for good results, just don't go out of sight line of your pots.

I was wading around in the mangroves looking for muddies last sunday in an area I normally get my two or three crabs from within 30 minutes on a flood tide. I saw dozens of very undersized crabs and a half a dozen jennies and not one legal buck.
I also saw three boats check the one pair of pots about 200m from me in a space of about two hours. The sharefarmers are there but I would suspect the pickings are quite slim. One boat was a white quintrex explorer anmd the two others were plain alloy boats, one a v-punt and the other what looked to be about a 14' abalone. None of them had either pot on board for more than 5 seconds.

I went up right Glasshouse creek yesterday on low tide, I must have seen at least 20 pots on sandbanks , up trees and in mangroves with out floats, most obvously been there a long time. My point is alot of pots loose floats and are presumed stolen perhaps.

    Cheers Dids

    Hey Dids,
All my pots had floats named etc Could not mistake them.
I do agree with you regarding pots presumed stolen. Its a pity people think the have to sink them to stop them being farmed. How many don't get found again? Regards Boof
