    Rod and Lure making equipment

    Hi All

Just wondering where I could get some rod building/lure making equipment? I am a school teacher and want to get some students into this as many of the students fish on the weekends.

Happy for it to be second hand as I am not sure how long the students will stick with it?

    Cheers

Give Wilson Tackle a call.....I am sure they would be supportive given what you are using it for. They wholesale rod building equipment.....always worth a try, failing that also give Jeff Froggley Agencies a ring....they are the importers of fuji componentry and Samurai blanks...they also used to sell rod building equipment. Both companies used to be very generous in the promotions side...especially to schools and community organisations....though I have been out of it for a while so their policies may have changed.

    Cheers

    Mick,
Maybe you could talk to the woodwoork teacher about knocking up some Vee blocks to use for holding the rods, and some thread tensioning devices.
Then all you need is some inexpensive dryers and thread/epoxy.
I'm sure we could come up with some plans for the gear.
I'm not sure what the curriculum allows, but I'm sure if they made a workstation for themselves and then went on to build a rod on it, they would get a heap of enjoyment out of the whole process.
I'd be happy to donate a few spools of thread and a bit of epoxy.
    Cheers,
    Owen

Thanks guys for the replies. I took 12 months off teaching and went to work for a fishing tackle retailer and spent quite a bit of time dealing with the boys from Wilson so I might give the guys a call. the link to he mud hole looks great as well.

    Thanks

Simon, you have an "in" with Wilson which is a great start. Owen is on to something there....dont know if the have Industrial Arts faculties in the schools up here (they may be called something different now), but what an idea for a 'holistic' approach to your project....both from the woodworking and metalworking side......drying lathes can be powered by rottisieri motors (12v), binding lathes can be powered by old sewing machine motors (thats how my set ups originated - though my first was a converted tredle sewing machine).
