    GPS giving false positioning

This has been on my mind for a few months now the last couple of trips out my garmin 525 (same a the aussi 550 I think) was reading incorrectly by about 100m.

I was on the inside of the cairns leads at cruising speed yet it was charting me outside of the leads but directly equal and parallel.

I stopped and rebooted the unit and it found my position properly. More or less same scenario is now 2 out of 2 trips.

What would the problem be, warranty is over I think, could this type of problem be a software related? or hardware? I guess with hardware it either works or it doesn't????

There is never any aerial obstruction and the water was calm so big bangs.

    any ideas?

    G'day

Upgrade the software and go from there.

My garmin 525 was dropping signal, unable to regain shortly after I bought it. I checked the software version (was way out) upgraded it and all good

Is it internal or external antenna?? You could have a faulty antenna more so than a faulty bit of software.

Thanks Blokes, will do the software upgrade, I notice there is another new one available and then keep my fingers crossed, it's internal but I think it has a fitting for an external aerial on the back...completely forgot about that option, guess will just have to see.

"There is never any aerial obstruction"

    1. Yet this has an internal antenna? Bit of a conflict with that statement?

    2. Is there anywhere near the main leads/channel in Cairns?

    I have a GPSMAP 550 with GSD22 attached.
Recently had problem with losing sonar and had a suspected GPS position was incorrect.
contacted Garmin Aus and since then they have replaced the head (550) and still same problem. Then they replaced the transducer and believe it or not all is working well.
My unit was two weeks under two years old. They have replaced the lot for zilch.
I believe this is GREAT service from GARMIN. Give them a try.I can only speek hightly of them.
    This was recently done.

100 m sounds like the wrong datum? Might be worth a look.
