    Question Leader Lines

Hi all just a question on leaders. What is the basic difference between flurocarbon and standard mono leader line. Which do you use and why.

    Re: Leader Lines

Flurocarbon refracts light very similarly to water does so therefore is less visible in water than mono is.
Flurocarbon also sinks better than nylons, perlons and co-polymers.
Flurocarbon lines also do not absorb moisture as much as other lines.

Regardless of leader type, you should use whatever is best suited to your application as there are widely differing characteristics between leaders in abrasion resistance, stiffness, thickness, colour, sink rates and knotability.

The shiny versions of leader should be avoided as they give light reflections underwater regardless of material type.

As Dion stated, Nitlon DFC is a remarkably good leader material but it comes at a premium price. I use dozens of spools of it each season.

    Re: Leader Lines

I use fluro leaders for sp's and lures due to the fact that it sinks better and is less visible but I use mono for poppers as it floats.
