    Duel Cab Ute - options?

Hey, I'm looking at buying a 4wd duel cab ute, it will not be used extensively offroad just need it for the extra towing capacity and launching and retreving a boat of a ramp with a fair bit of sand cover.. as well as the odd bit of off-road stuff while camping.. My budget is roughly $20k and will be looking for something around the 2003-04 model.. i have found a few Navara's that are in really good condition for under $20k are these a good car or is there a reason why there are so many people selling them? any help would be great..

    Thanks, Nidrac.

    G'day

For that budget in that age... I'll be going a slightly newer Rodeo.... (04/05ish)

    Cannot go wrong.

I'd go an older Hilux first, maybe followed by a D22 navara.

Mate i picked up a 2006 TD courier dual cab (ex dept of defence) with 37k on it for $15k at the auctions. So far so good. It goes ok, if a bit under geared. Tows the boat just fine and has been good off road (nothing extreme yet).

Thanks for that guys, i've had a bit of a look at the auctions but i haven't been able to get away from work to have a look at what sort of prices they are going for as they are held on tuesdays up here... was also looking at the 04 Rodeo the other day as well and it doesn't look too bad.. but it was running on a duel feul system (LPG) does anyone have any experience with these?

my experiences with the auctions in Townsville is with commodores and falcons and they generally go for about 4000 cheaper than at the secondhand car yards

you should have plenty of choices with dual cabs.......the place is lousy with the things.

I've been looking for a single cab....and you have to wade thru a dozen dual cabs to get to a decent single cab.

It depends on your preferences.....personaly I'd go the hilux....but 99 or later...others will disagree.

Big brother would be pro the navara...but the parts a dearer.

Townsville used to be a big nissan town at one time, but of late its gone more toyota.........If you want to get among the nissans......ayr is the closest nissan town.

look arround and see what you see.......not all that many rodeos or mazdas in t'ville.....compred to the hoard of toyotas and nissans.

    cheers

    Thanks for all your help..

Hi, With the turbo diesel nissan's they were having alot of trouble with the injector's and turbo's failing, a mate in mt isa said during the winter month's they are lined up at the nissan dealer, seams to be a problem with towing the wieght of a caravan.

Re: Duel Cab Ute - options?

I just got off the phone to big bro' in t'ville...he's been frequenting the auctions of late....he recons the place is lousy with twin cabs.......but price for condition the auction prices are a bit high at the moment...and some of the specemins have worked hard.

he pulled him self a good bargin partol out of the paper......if you want value for money, the paper or internet add sites are a good option .....look for a private sale.

what you are looking for is a family car.......where the kids have grown and the lack of legroom in the back is causing a whine to come from the rear.

    cheers

    oldboot,
thanks for that mate.. that saves me a lot of stuffing around... i have noticed a few good utes on the internet sites of late so yeah i think that one might be the go... nah mate i'm only 19 so the closest to kids that will be in the back seat will be drunk mates and if they can complain about the leg room there's always the tray... just after a ute to start towing the boat around and the odd camping trip, but still want the extra seats..

    Thanks, Nidrac.

Re: Duel Cab Ute - options?

remember with a dual cab.....the tray isn't long enough to put a decent shovel in.

I hate dual cabs......no leg room......bad seats in the back......and worst of all useless tray.....cant put a sheet of ply in it......cant sleep in it unless you sleep like a curled up like a cat.
And if you want to put em inside you have to use two piece rods and break em down.

you will get better value out of a station waggon 4WD, and a more usefull ute in a single cab.

Naah....I'll leave the dual cabs to the tax dodgers, women and blokes with "responsibilities".

    cheers

Re: Duel Cab Ute - options?

Yeah i know what you mean.. the old mans got a duel cab BT-50 which is a bit like that... have thought about the single cabs but they don't have the room inside which i'm after.. and will have to just deal with the loss of tray size to get the extra seats..

    Thanks, Nidrac.

Re: Duel Cab Ute - options?

If you need a little bit of room....think about an extra cab.....you get about 2 fee behind the seats and you sacrifice the same off the tray....but you still have a tray that is some use.
