Thread: A rod in the 3-5kg range?

A rod in the 3-5kg range?

    It's tax refund time.
Who makes a decent, affordable (less than $250) 3-5kg or 3-6kg rod in about a 7' length?
I quite like my 2-4kg Raider, and then I have a 4-8kg Dropshot and a 5-8kg Avaya, and would like something to cross-over between the 2-4kg and the 4-8kg. Be using it for SPs in the bay....
    Any suggestions?

    Cheers!

with those criteria and that budget you wont have a lot of choices....probably only a thousand or so!!!!!! Take a trip to Tackle Warehouse, or Fishead or any of the reputable tackle stores and start playing with rods and talking to the staff. You will get a heap of replies on here that will promote the rods of their choice/experience (nothing wrong with that), but you need to feel the thing in your hands matched up with a similar reel to the one you will be using.

Check out the Loomis range, maybe something out of the SJR range. One of the large Mail Order tackle stores are doing 20% off this month.
I considered at the SJR783 - GL2, 6'6" 8-14 pound but after using my brothers it may have been a little too light for 20 pound, which is what I am running, but at $283 less 20% it's a gift.
The Loomis range is massive, there would be something to fit the bill.

Re: A rod in the 3-5kg range?

Went on down to Tackle Warehouse. Ended up grabbing a Team Daiwa Tierra 7' 4-12lb.
Seems quite good for the price. Other than that, it's a fairly big jump in price up to the next level.....
Anyway, looks like I'll probably be buying a Daiwa Sol 3000 and either a Daiwa TD Advantage or Heartland XA, also in 3000. One of which will end up on this rod, the other on my 4-8Kg dropshot.
    Cheers!

Not a bad choice by any means, but I did find those particular rods to be a bit heavier in the tip than a lot of others.

They do seem that way, but I compared it to directly to my 2-4kg Raider and my 4-8kg Dropshot, and it seemed like a nice inbetween rod.....

I don't feel that it's perfect, but for the price it seems pretty good.

Good work......nothing like picking the things up and playing wiht them to determine whether you like em or not. A good choice, wont let you down. (i have yet to see the 'perfect' rod). Its all about value for money/suitability to purpose.

    Cheers
