    P66 Tranny Mounting Advice

Got a question for any of you with transom mount airmars.

Just in the process of fitting a p66 airmar transom mount to my plate hull. Given the transom angle, if i go without the shim provided the tranny surface will be pretty much dead paralel to the hull surface, if i use the shim the tranny will be at a "more than normal" rear down angle to the hull. Obviously i'll get it sorted over time but would be better to get it right first up!

What do you reckon, go with parallel, maybe sit the tranny a bit deeper than normal or go with the shim and have the tranny "palming" the water more than normal.

    Cheer's, Scott

Go with the shim as the P66 seems to appreciate the tilted ass end.

And also set it slightly lower Approx 10mm below the lowest point of deadrise.

Looking at your avatar also keep it clear of any planing strakes.

Sorry Frank, but I gotta disagree with you ... it is beter of being parallel.

Thats how we set all ours up without dramas.

i agree with both of u depends on the speed of ur boat and how much turbulance the hull produces general rule of thomb i found if ur boat can do 25knots or more angle it if not parralel
    good luck

Thanks for the feedback fellas. looks like no had and fast rules. I just wanted to see if there was any real trends with what people find works. I'll go without the shim for a start and go from there, it gets a pretty clean bit of water where it runs so this might make the parallel thing work easier as well.

Not sure if you got this with the unit but full details in the chart on page 3 of this document: http://www.raymarine.co.uk/EasysiteW...ype=Attachment

Pete you have set up a whole lot more rigs than i have and i'd take your
    advice anytime.
I suppose the transom angle on the tinny is a factor re shimming or not.
The tiliting is adjust able so trial and error me thinks.

Absolutely a trial and error basis, no hard and fast rules, and there is nothing wrong with that.

It has been quite a while since I mounted a transducer with angle - it tends to create more turbulance at speed, but each to their own.

    Cheers
