Thread: Outboard Costs

    Re: Outboard Costs

Well quite often you wont get the best price out of a car or boat dealer that way.

For some reason they seem to want to tough it out.

And often they wont give you a better price till you have told them that you can do better else where... and by how much.

When we baught the car for the Mrs....it went back and forward half a dozen times... before we gave the deal to one bloke..............then two days later one of the others rang offering a still better price by $500 but he was too late........by the time it was over we ( the Mrs mostly) had wangled $5000 off arround $30 000 original offers.

    cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.

    Re: Outboard Costs

People seem surprised that they don't get a dirt cheap price straight off the mark. Do you know how many price enquiries dealers get each day?

If you spend the time to show a sales person you are keen and an actual buyer not just someone who is thinking about repowering next year.......... Believe me there are alot! you willl get a better deal.

Sales people are paid on comission and every $ you get off the price a portion comes out of their pocket. It's their job to get the highest possible price.

I get asked my best price in the first 10 seconds on the phone by the customer. They do not even even giving me the chance to qualify them, find out when they are buying or even establish if the motor is an appropriate option for their requirements. Am I going to give them the best price? NO!

If you talk to a sales person, let them know you are an actuall buyer and show them you are keen they will be keen to do a deal and offer you a discount.

I know it's the sales person's job to qualify the customer but if I came out with my best price first time every time, then I have no where to go to offer a discount.

You all know that you like getting offered a better deal so you can tell your mates that they wanted $15000 but I talked them into $14500

If you compare the RRP between these two motors there is $2544 difference for the manual lift 4 stroke or $2908.00 for the Power T and T model.
Plus you need a battery and fuel filter with the 4 stroke.

There is $1454 difference between the E start Power T and T, 2 stroke and the 4 stroke.

I think you need to compare apples with apples
thanks for that BB..perhaps the bloke should have explained that to me..I have not had a 4 stroke before.

I can assure you I am not going through all the crap of establishing to some sales guy if I am a buyer..I do not have the time nor the inclination to go around boat yards and look at prices for the fun of it...I also do not have the time to haggle over prices..give me the price they are prepared to sell at and the deal can be done. I am just a GOM that loathes and detests shopping for anything..so all they have to do is give me the price..explain what I get for that money and the deal could be struck..i am not interested in standing around and haggling for a few hundred bucks for the sake of it.
Last car i bought..a couple of months back..i asked their price..i made an offer..they said they could not do it..i walked out..they rang back an hour later and accepted my price.
I am not the easiest person to deal with but if they tell me what I get for my money and I think that is a value for money then the deal is done..if i don't think so then I do not waste any more of my time or theirs..lets us both go about our business without any further ado..that is how I shop..get in..do the deal and get out.

Thats is exactly how I am too PH. I HATE shopping! I love looking and asking questions on things when I am not totally sure what I want/need but When I tell a sales person I want to buy x product or Y BMT package and I ask for thier best price I expect to hear it. If the next guy beats that price the first bloke doesn't even get a look in. Im not going back and forth with all the BS. If there are dealers in an area that can all supply a product then they all get 1 visit and the best price wins.

no we just dont like wasting our hard earned money why give away cash just cause youll hurt the dealers feelings?

also may be able to get something a little bigger ie more bang for our buck, also boats never come ready to go always somethign else needing our hard earned

i dont get the attitude its this much cause we say it is

bought 4 new boat packages in last 10 years and several outboards. i just say give me your best price and i dont tell the next dealer what the last guy told me

also wont get a engine serviced at a company with no written rates on services

Mate, I personally could not be bothered with going back.
I've taken the time to drive to them, have a look at the range, sit down so they can work a price out and then go back and do the same all over again just so they can sharpen the pencil a bit. I think not.
I've got better things to do with my time. Even if it is watching Judge Judy.

If they can't see I'm fair-dinkum after I've taken time out to drive to see them (not over the phone) then tough noogies.
If I wanted to play games I'd have a playstation.

To me a sale is exactly the same as a tender...only the final submission date is NOW!!
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good
