I got a quote for a tinnie today...as follows:
with 40hp 2 stroke outboard $x
with 40hp 4 stroke - $x + $3000.
I looked up some similar packages o nthe net and the price difference was 1000.
I think someone is trying to have a lend of me.

Silly them
They only get one chance with you and me!

What could go wrong.......................
Yeah, silly them.
They should have known better.
What is the price of a 2S 40hp motor??
It's like the dealer that tried to tell me they put the compliance plates on after a sale...he was trying to sell me a 3 year old motor as brand spanking.
I wouldn't have known except the cowl design had changed drastically in that 3 years and I went looking for the plate that wasn't there.
You just don't go back.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good
yeah when we went looking at outboard one dealer wanted like 21800 for a 150 etec and another wanted 18700 both fitted! makes u wonder sometimes doesnt it..
560c Bar Crusher "Overtime"
When I bought mine - Quintrex 445 dory with 40 Yam, the difference was $1908 to go 4 stroke. I would have jumped at it if it was 1000.
That was 5 years ago, but I wouldn't expect the price "gap" to have changed too much.
If someone has a recent F&B they should be able to confirm the difference, albeit based on RRP...
Scott.
I think there are many variables..........both brand and dealer.
I costed a 60Hp a little while ago in yamaha..and there was only a couple of hundred between the 2 and 4 stroke.....both arround $6000 fitted........front steer with guages.
If I was serious I would have asked more questions.
what is included
do the motors have different features.
in the merc.....at arround 30Hp.......you can get into a tiller steer quite cheap....but if you want power tilt and trim....that is a whole different range of motors and is much more expensive.
I don't know that any body is necessarily getting ripped of ( hmmm), but some dealers can run on low margins.....perhaps they get a better deal due to volume of some such thing.
I know that there are things I can not buy, for the price some of my bigger competitors are selling them for, due to their "deals".
ya just have to do your homework.... and know what you are getting for the price
cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.
OB...the boat comes standard with a 40hp 2 stroke...I asked for a price with a 4 stroke..both Yamaha. I was handed a sheet of paper with the standard BMT package on it and hand written below was a price and "inc F40 four stroke".
I know bugger all about 4 strokes and what is required for them but i would have thought that if it needs battery etc that would have been written there also...I would take it that no battery or anything is not included as it is not written on the quote.
Oh well..onward and upward..LOL
Like any other industry, those boat shops with very high turn over are able to run at lower margins. Simple as that.
I got a tinny and outboard from Stonescorner marine for $1200 cheaper than anywhere else I could find, Simply due to the fact they have such a high turn.
Have you thought about sourcing the different components of the BMT package??
ie boat, motor and a trailer
Or just not interested in the time and hassles taken??
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good
PinHead I think the basic BMT package would have included a 2 stroke manual start 2 stroke. The 4 strokes are all Electric start
If you compare the RRP between these two motors there is $2544 difference for the manual lift 4 stroke or $2908.00 for the Power T and T model.
Plus you need a battery and fuel filter with the 4 stroke.
There is $1454 difference between the E start Power T and T, 2 stroke and the 4 stroke.
I think you need to compare apples with apples
the other thing to consider is that the BMT package may come to the dealer fitted up and on a deal from the distributer..........the dealer would then have to either buy a boat and trailer package and fit up the motor or pull the supplied motor and fit the replacement........extra labour and fiddle and less $$ leverage on the bits.
and yep the 4 stroke motor may not be equavalent to the packaged 2 stroke..........most manufacturers will have a cheap and a quality range in the smaller 2 strokes..... but only 1 range in the 4 strokes.
remember a good bargin has to be stalked and played like a trophy fish and you have to throw a few back before you have worthy one to take home.
And remember don't try and land the bargin before it is played out.
remember also that the end of the month is a good time to make a deal....because if the dealer is behind on quota or bonus, they will be keen for a deal.
good hunting
cheers

yep, that's my system as well, anyone who says "get your best price and come back" usually does not see me again, just make sure of course you are comparing different dealers with a similar product, there is a dozen ways to make a pakage "cheap" but not always inexpensive, there is a big difference.
