Thought I would share.

The old Redco Sportsman was starting to rust, so before it really took hold I decided to have a new trailer made.

This trailer has NO centre ( keel ) rollers and is totally supported by the multiroller system unique to FMS. I also had extra safety chains added, dual spare wheels / tyres and a custom extended draw bar. It has submersible LED lights, H/D swingaway jockey wheel and " gullwing " axles that bring the centre of gravity lower. All wheels are Gal and I am running 195 x 65 x 14 tyres.

Phil,

The jockey wheel handle looks the ducks nuts, no need to worry about scraping and bending that, just fold it out of the way.

How is Rebait travelling? Had surgery yet?

Good looking setup Phil. I had a mate who had a 625 and it was over 2T fully laden, hence over ride brakes were needed.

Not meaning to put a dampener on the thread but dont alloy boats need keel rollers?? I only ask because the one broken alloy boat i've had somesting to do with broke because the centre rollers were to low and were not supporting the keel during travel. , and it flexed apart!

I have been assured the keel rollers are not necessary. I am 99% convinced.

no surgery yet, I am still deciding, although the remove and replace option for the targa was nearly done. Funds are an issue and the best option in that respect is gussets to stop flex.

Ideally I would have had alloy wheels. Again, the costs of these versus gal was the factor. I also do some ' offroad ' stuff and gal steel wheels bend and alloy break !!!! Also having the alloy wheels might make it more appealing to those that might want to " borrow " it !!

The BIL's Riptide sits on an FMS, no keel rollers, 5yrs old, numerous trips tp Fraser etc no issues.Jim

Hey Phil

Very nice looking trailer. I just bought a Noble SuperVee 6.2 similar to Rebait, and the trailer had been neglected, so I might be after one too in a couple of years.

How often do you beach launch - esp now the Fraser expo is gone.

It would be a shame to lose the hardtop - getting it welded up shouldn't be much of a drama. If you fill those rod holders with overhead rigs that would add a fair bit of weight up there. Looking forward to pics of the repairs.

Ian - Plate boats like the Sportfish don't need keel rollers like pressed alloy boats do. It has 5mm plate and 6mm stringers inside so it's very strong. My trailer does have them however, along with wobble rollers which provide the primary support at the back.

Wooo, Shiney trailer ! It sits very nicely into the trailer (rather than on top of it)

I wonder if they deliberately left those U-bolts out of the winch post base ?

Well, with any luck I will hit Fraser twice a year and also looking at doing a Nth NSW launch,,, around Wooli / Mini Water.

Yes, the U-bolts are at either end of the posts, probably no need for 4 U-bolts to hold it.

And, Yes, the boat sits well for travelling. Might even get an improvement on fuel economy when towing.

hey nice trailor, Brother inlaw put one of them under his bowrider as far as i know they have not have a problem other then a roller at the back kept bouncing over due to working loose.

It looks very low to the ground, soft sand and the odd rock might become a little bit of problem on the beach.

still looks like a great setup though

Some broad leaf poison wouldn't go astray at your house matey..
And a lawn mower too.

PS mount the number plate on a strip of rubber too. It might flex instead of the number plate because it's gunna hit the bitumen, or driveway, or lawn, or paving, or any bloody thing else seeing it's that low.

does the extended draw bar fit to trailer for transport or does it go on the roof racks on the 4b?

are you going to give the rear end of the trailer a coat of Tecktyl before use?
