gr hilly Ive had the garmin gps 72 for a few years now and I think that its a great unit , it was primarly built as a marine gps unit as maps cant be loaded onto it ,water proof, largish screen and a good battery life, the down fall of this unit is its track line memory any distance over about 150ks and it drops off the start of the trail, the way I found to get around this is to travell out to your mark(up to aprox 150 ks) and then save the trail as a route so that you have a line back if needed.when you upload it to a computer it dos'nt save the speeds you were travelling at (routes) but does for the trail line. hope that make sense and helps out a bit.

Not a bad price for a GPS 72 With a few extras.
They are a top little unit.I have had mine for around 5 years and it hasn't let me down.

If you have an iphone already - as most people do.

You can download navonic maps for $14.99 - the maps cover all of australia for that price.

    Just another option

As my mate learnt the i-phones aren't as good under water, I think those Hand Held Garmin can go up to 1 mtr submerged and are shock resistand.... Wouldn't use my I-=phone thats for sure... IMO anyways.

Yah Garmin are good hand helds. I Have the 76CSx with Bluechart mapping. Awesome unit. had it for about 3 years now and hasn't missed a beat. Super accurate too.
