Hi all,

yes,
Apparently they are no longer selling blanks to builders.
Probably got tired of people building better rods than the factory ones
Cheers,
Owen
The whole world's mad save thee & me (but I'm not too sure about thee)
I can assure you there are beter blanks around than gloomis.
Stu
Thats interesting Stu, what are they, what is your pick of the cheaper blanks around. I've noticed a new brand in American stores called MHX, any dealings.
Jerson
MHX are just mudholes own in house range they have just released ?
Thanks for the input so far.
Another question, if there was a range of blanks that ou would exclusively build from what would it be?
I know as rod builders you select a blank that best suits the application regardless of make but if you would choose one what would it be.
Graphite usa?
Anyone tried the North fork blanks designed by Gary loomis?
Cheers
Gloomis still make good blanks but there are other companies around that have some very advanced technologies at their disposal. I would place CTS at the top of the list while United Composites USA is also very good. Gary Howard is the CTS Australian agent; he has a pretty good range of their blanks.
Jerson, I don’t use blanks from retailers, god knows where they source their blanks from, that’s not to say they aren’t good. For cheap blanks, maybe try Rain shadow. I purchased around 60 blanks from them around 10 years ago just to try out. I still have most of them sitting in my blank bin. I didn’t use any of them because their action wasn’t what I wanted or required. I can’t recommend any others because I either haven’t used them or don’t care to try.

Stuart is right about there being a lot of blanks out there, if not better, then just as good as Loomis blanks. I've built everything from Samurai's to Lamiglas, Rainshadow, Loomis, the old GUSA range, Hastings, Sabre, CTS etc etc. All are good blanks just depends what you are after in the way of actions etc. I haven't even mentioned the newer ranges of Japanese blanks fairly new on the market. One thing I have learned over the time is that the blank doesn't have to cost a fortune to be a good blank. There are penty of good blanks out there which you don't have to take a mortgage out to buy. Peter Williams at GCCR has the full range of United Composite USA blanks available which should have something for everyone at decent prices. You can go for top of the range stuff right down to less expensive blank which still performs.
If you still want something that has that Loomis action, Gary Loomis has his new line of blanks released in the USA. Go into Mudhole Tackle and check them out.
My personal favorites are the GUSA's and St Croix blanks.

Mark
Mark are they the MHX blanks on mudhole
and agree with you on the St Croix Blanks ,have built a few and very impressive
Willo
G'day Willo,
Mate the MHX blanks, as far as I know, are the Mudhole brand. I really don't know anything about them other than that. The Northfork brand is the new Gary Loomis range of blanks and can be seen on the Mudhole site.

Mark
