SPIN REEL--Barra and ???

Hi all, I know this has been asked a "few" times But I've spent tooooo much time reading thru posts to become even more undecided on what spin reel to buy,

I'm looking at a reel for casting plastics normally only up to 130mm squidgys at dam barra, I only do up to 5-6 trips per year and I would see myself only using the spin gear for maybe 10-20% of the time, the rest would be with baitcaster.

I know there is not an allround reel to cover all basis but was hoping to get one with spare spool that could be used around the sunny coast estuary and close inshore.

Some that i have been close to buying so far are:

DAIWA::: Advantage 3500
Tierra 3500
costal 3000

Shimano::: Stradic 3000
Saros 3000

So if anyone has some thoughts to share ,pros and cons or experiences with these reels , I will be very grateful

Haven't decided on a rod yet but would rather get a good reel to start with and go from there! I've spent enough ( if that's possible) on fishing gear for the limited amount of fishing that i do therefor price i was looking at was up to $200

I know someone using the Saros 3000 a bit for barra. seems ok. got the usual mid range Shimano high quality finish. good drag. will be ideally sized for estuary and inshore reefs too as the 3000 shimano is the same size body as the 2500 but with a slightly deeper spool.
I'd look at the 2500-3000 size in the daiwa advantage or similar.

I use 2500 - 3500 daiwas for barra and offshore. the 3500 is too big for estuary tho'...its really a 4000 body.

I'll go against the "shimano or daiwa" grain by suggesting a brand that's impressed me to no end in recent months.

Any of the following in a 40 size will see you straight.

They'll be between $140 and $200 depending on where you look.

I've got an older model, a Pflueger Medalist in the 40 size and it just takes abuse upon abuse and comes back for more without so much as a whisper of a problem.

That all said, 'everyone' goes and buys Shimano or Daiwa anyway.

ROO::: Shame to hear the advantage 3500 is that big, I read where it and the 4000 are made in Japan?? If that makes a difference to quality?? It was my initial choice ............. then I started searching trying to talk myself out of it.

The ABU Soron is well worth a look, nice and solid, smooth, comes with two spools, it's also under 200 bucks. I love mine and plan to buy more.

What pflueger baitcasters do you have? I've got a trion and an illusion, but looking into getting a summit for the dual magnetic and centrifugal break functions.

I'm using a Daiwa Excelor Da 4000.Its a very good reel for the dosh about $160 I think.2 spools also.

I'm pretty sure that Trev (Awoonga) uses a Soron for barra ...... certainly for most of this year & caught plenty of good fish too .

Deefa I use the Daiwa Advantage 4000 (Comes with 2nd spool).....very happy with the product......Casts a mile....very smooth retrieve and excellent drag......beautifully made and it looks it.......bought mine O/S and with the value of the Dollars,now is the time to do it.....JMT.

I've got a size 40 soron mated to a t curve snapper 3/6 kg. Line size 10 pound fireline or 12-15 pound mono.

The size was a 30 from memory ( or eqivalent to a Daiwa 3000) - Certainly not a big reel as it was spooled with only 20lb
