NSW Access Forum Herald a Sucess

    Access Forum heralded a success

    01 Oct 2009

Last weekend, the Recreational Fishing Alliance of NSW (RFA), along with the NSW Council of Freshwater Anglers, jointly conducted the NSW Angling Access Forum and Workshop, at the Marque Hotel in Sydney.

The Chairman of the RFA, Mr Malcolm Poole, said, "NSW anglers are now taking a lead role to retain, maintain and improve access for fisherman to NSW inshore and coastal waters where ever possible".

Poole went onto say, "it was truly an excellent 1 ˝ days of fishing effort (the non extractive kind of course), by Government and anglers alike, who share fishing as a common passion. The 55 participants produced an initial vision that will drive efforts to ensure and enable fishermen will be able to enjoy their passion into the future: Responsible public access to public natural resources, for recreational enjoyment, sustainable use and conservation appreciation across lands of all tenure, and all our marine and inland waters."

Leading the way, the Monaro Acclimatisation Society recently secured the care and management of an iconic fishing spot known as ‘Paddy's Corner', on the Thredbo River near Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains. Steve Samuels, the Society's president said "At Paddy's Corner local anglers have assumed responsibility for the adjacent Crown Reserve and will guarantee public access into the future. Our success shows that anglers working with Government can protect their valuable fishing spots and provide an enduring asset for the fishing public."

The NSW Angler Access Forum was funded by the NSW Recreational Fresh and Saltwater Licence Trusts, the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation, and supported by, Industry & Investment NSW. RFA also acknowledges the efforts of all participants.

Poole concluded, "Recreational Fishers are true conservationists, and are committed to ensuring their practices are sustainable in the long term. Securing and protecting access for the fishing public is a vital step in delivering quality recreational fishing opportunities into the future".

Sounds like a good thing the big battle today is fighting for physical access gaining back lost physical access and fighting against the regulated disfranchise-ing of anglers through the most used fishery management tool - lack of amenity ie amenity means any regulation specificly or to the effect that it's design makes the simple act of angling no longer worth the financial or mental hassle.

I thought all crown land was accessible to all citizens, I myself have had hundreds of fishing trip on crown land and none of them trespass.

Do you know what they are actually saying? one thought is a fenced riparian border was to be place but is no more?

i have visited this spot before but a long time ago so forget if there was anything peculiar to it.

    cheers fnq

classic Scott..absolute classic...why the hell do they need a conference..don;t they know about video links etc..hell of a site cheaper but I guess some license money would pay for it.

BTW..who cares what happens in NSW anyway..if I cared it about it that much I would move there and that is never going to happen.

not at all sleepy but the NSW news really is wasted on most here as the vast majority is Qld based..now if something would happen here it could be a positive.

Don't try and read something into a post that isn't there...so i gather your point is that we should inundate the site with all the fishing news from all around theworld..I'll see if i can find something from Khazjackistan perhaps????

I went looking for minutes of that meeting and all I could find was this
    http://www.rfansw.com.au/Documents/R...2028-09-09.pdf
What was actually done to improve access to crown land or riparian zones??
Some might read the Monaro Acclimatisation Society recently secured the care and management of an iconic fishing spot known as ‘Paddy's Corner', on the Thredbo River near Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains as since the Monaro Acclimatisation Society now mows the lawn they are now able charge you an access fee to be able to fish there.
If that was the only thing gained from that meeting then it was a waste of money that was 'donated' by the NSW fishing license.
Some more details would be nice.

Was this the most important item to be discussed at the meeting??
Appears so or they would have put something else in the media release I suppose
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good
