    One Week In Lucinda

Have the week off and heading to Lucinda for the last week of October for the close of the barra season. Have spent numerous hours going through old threads for tips and hints and have the guide to hinchinbrook book. Still, like to ask for any tips and hints on what’s happening up there at the moment.
The tides while I am there are a midday low with an early morning/evening high tides, hints on places and species to target at these times? I have a 4.3m seajay barra boat so will not be heading offshore, sticking to the channel and creeks and prefer to toss lures to bait fishing.
Anyone else going to be up there at the same time, if so send me a pm and we can organise a bbq or get together. I am staying at Arches Beach front units so would be good to link up with anybody there.
Also is Lucinda Lures still up and running, like to stop in and check them out as well.

mate i can't help you with the luring but if you want to do a bit of bait fishing.. i suggest using live mullet as your main bait... look for currentlines and dropoffs in creeks as these are the area's where barra's like to hide.. we have pulled 15 barra's out of a drop off in main channel up there where everyone drives past.. we preffer to chase them on the full moon but if you have the right area i can't see why you can't get them on the new moon. try fishing the turn of the tide as we get 90% of our fish within an hour of the turn. We have always fished the incoming tide when we can. hope this helps.. let me know if you have any more questions..

We just returned from Cardwell and went down to fish Lucinda a couple of times, The barra we got was from Bluff creek. There were some good snags on the western bank not far in, on the first big one we caught 5 barra and 2 jack. A little further up the creek there is a big snag with a couple of crab pots rolled up in it and there are a couple of good snags opposite this. Have a troll along the bluff as well and on high tide throw a couple of lures at the big rock in the centre of the channel ( you'll be suprised by what can hit you here). Its worth having a troll with deep divers (qantas color) along the sugar loader about 3/4 the way along, we got blowen away by some massive fingermark but we still managed a couple

    Re: One Week In Lucinda

Im headed there this Christmas for 10 days! woohoo.

Previous trips I've found in coming tide pushes bait fish up against the creek mount banks. and often you will see the barra feeding along the shore. Drop a livey in and your good to go.

Due to big tides there, simply look for places you think the bait fish would get funnelled and thats where you will find the fish

    On a side note.
Are there any kindly gentlemen out there who'd like to a share a mark or two out from Lucinda? I know theres a few patches of shoal around out past the loader, maybe a wreck? so any info would be greatly appreciated

    Flex,

Good Rubble marks up here aren't that hard to find when the fish are around but when their not from our experience you may as well not go because you'll waist a lot of fuel driving straight over the top of them.. the easiest way of finding some is pulling your charts out and having a look at your contour lines... focus on the area's where it changes (all the bumps) and throw some mackrel lines out and just put around... if the fish are there you'll soon find them..

give us a PM when you come up as we normally go out a fair bit during Christmas..

    Nidrac..
