    What size Spheros for jigging

Hi im thinking about getting into a bit of knife jigging, i own a 6" 1 piece Silstar Crystal Blue Power Tip Jig Spin Rod which has a heavy action (model CB-601JSH) , it's currently fitted with a shimano 4500 baitrunner and ive been doing a bit of floatlining with this combo, i want to remove the baitrunner and get a spheros which is better suited then the baitrunner for jigging knife jigs.I plan to run 30lb Finns braid and want at least 250 metres of braid on the reel, what size spheros would best suit my needs. It's just a fairly cheap jigging set-up im after for now and if i get right into it then ill get a better set-up in the future.

The Rod specs say it is a 'H' which would put it more in the 50-60lb Braid class than the 30lb, with that size the 14000 or 18000 size Spheros would suit, but if you can budget a bit more a Saragosa will do the job much better, and will last a lot longer which will save you $ in the long run.

Thanks for the reply mate, i'm not a huge fan of running really heavy braided line as i like fishing light for more of a challenge, i dont get offshore to often so the combo wont get used enough to warrant getting the saragosa.Wouldnt the spheros 6000 or 8000 hold at least 250 metres of 30lb braid.

The 6000fa would hold that currently $112 at your door off ebay drag upgrade $25-35 handle upgrade $100 (both form dunphys) and you have a superb reel for a litte over $200 have your fist service at D&H and get the washers lapped and this reel will be the biz. And imho a little better than a saragosa

Tim, If you are only jigging just occasionally then the Spheros will definitely do the job, my old upgraded ones are still working well for a mate chasing Reds up north. The new FB models have the extra bearing, drag upgrade and most of the new gear you find on the new Shimano models, and they come in well under $300 in the big sizes. The Saragosa is a Spheros [same molding] on Steroids with double the amount of drag washes as well as Paladin gears for an extra $100.
    Happy fishing

    Tim D,
I have just returned from off shore Rainbow beach. I used the same braid as you mentioned for jigging. I was monstered by yellow tail kings, i to like the sport of light line, i was never in the hunt, didn't stand a chance once they headed for the reef. Line has to be heavier next time or take a lot more jigs.

This might be a dumb question but can the handle be put on the right side of the reel, all the spheros pictures ive seen have the handle on the left.
