Hi Steve,
I've got a Shimano Raider Bream Finesse (or something like that), from memory, it's a 7'6", 2-4kg, 2-piece. I love it. Should be able to pick one up for around $130-$140.
Also heard good things about the Pflueger Trion's, 'though I've never tried one, and they should be around the same price. That'll give you a few extra bucks for some more lures
Hey Steve, have a look here for some great gear within your budget. http://www.breammaster.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=58 (hope mods don't mind) I recently picked up 2 Loomis rods for breaming both around $200.
Shimano Starlo Tournament Lite Spin - 7' 6" (2-4kg rod)
Has nice split grips and a good blank for the money. Locks up nicely.
Will only set you back about $130.
They are a top rod for the $$$ and are significantly better than the Raiders etc but they are one piece which may rule them out for your purpose. They cast light weights reasonably well and yet have the low down power to apply a lot of hurt. I have taken Snapper to 80cm on mine and it never felt undergunned

2-4kg Bream Finesse
I also have a Pflueger Trion 2-4kg 2 piece and this rod performs very well
Nerang Camping have them both cheap as well
Mate my brother might be selling one of his T-curves in the next couple of days.
Will be a lot cheaper than $200 and an excellent rod.
He bought and Egrell S1 so he doesn't use it any more.
I will let you know.
Cheers and thanks.
