Hi all
Some good stuff has been written / filmed about reading water in our impoundments - The talk of current flows or wind blown shores all help in obtaining better results. As we know transition / demarcation lines are formed on those muddy banks which are then used as ambush areas by barra - wind lanes are formed (which attract bait & barra) ........ Yes when the wind is blowing, life is much easier - if you are able to identify the signs.
OK .... now what about when we hit those periods of benign weather where we see little / no wind , hot conditions , rapidly rising water temps ........ better off being in a aircon apartment somewhere but what if we want to still try to catch barra. Night fishing can be great for those keen enough & sunset / sunrise often produce results.
Daylight hours ........ what do we look for ( shaded areas - lilly pads)
If we knew what the winds were doing before hand - Is it worth going to the lee side of the dam where we could have seen warmer surface water replaced by cooler water. ..... What are the barras priorities ( food & comfort +.... ?????)
Deep water & thermoclines - We certainly look for what areas the birds may be located.
Wind lanes or the remnants of ..... will often hold bait.
Its all interesting & I'll certainly be trying to learn if I encounter these benign days this summer.
What are your thoughts or experiences.
Cheers
Chris
