    Sandies

Went out from wello yesterday arvo and the wind got up basically straight away. Had one drop of the dillies before coming home and got half a dozen. there were two humbacks behind green doing their thing in only 8m of water which was cool to see. lots of tail slapping and fluke waving.

    Good haul BayDog.

I can't say for sure and no one has proved it to my knowledge but the week leading up the full and 3 days after the full may have an impact on crab capture numbers. Has anyone notice this effect?

    Re: Sandies

around the full moon period you have the biggest tides, therefore the biggest run in the water, which i have found best for crabbing

    Re: Sandies

interesting Robsue what you said about the bigger tides....
we crab in about 10-12m of water and the big tides are no good as there is to much run...we prefer between 6ft 2ins and 6ft 8ins as a high tide..

    Re: Sandies

Went again yesterday and it was terrible crabbing! 6 crabs in 3 ours. maybe after the full moon is no good? two weeks ago it was a lot better. anyway im sick of catching just legal sandies, do you think the bigger crabs would be out deeper of further north. i know one pro runs his pots between green and harries and north in the deeper water, do you think is where the better quality is?

no i wont try that with a muddie, not after what one did to my hand and ankle and finger and....

    Re: Sandies

after leaving 4 pots out, on monday i got 17, tues 15 and picked pots up wed for another 8, and thats after some share farming happened i'm fairly sure
i had pots in 19-26 ft water, used whiting frames for bait
out of the 40 sandcrabs, 32 beat the old measurement, so i got a quality feed

    Re: Sandies

i think when the bigger tides are running i use dillies as they seem to catch better ,when the tides have a small amount of run i recon the pots and dillies catch the same amount..i agree with robsue with the size of the crabs being good with most going over the old size limit mesurement
    cheers rosco
