Whats the general opinion of stripers?

In my quest to buy a good mix between a cruiser and a fishing boat the striper has come into the equasion. I went to cunninghams to look at the 2301, they only had a customers 2601 which is way to big for what I want. Wondering if I should try track down a 2301 for a look or maybe even the 2101. Whats the general opinion on the 2301 and 2101?

My opinion is that if you tuck a $50 in the right spot they go a fair bit better.

Cant comment on the bigger versions but if a smaller version is anything to go by you cant go wrong..

will take a good sea,, been a guest on a smaller striper many times in different conditions and only problem is will be filling up the live bait tank with live bait? bloody huge.

BIg fuel tank, good cab and ticks all the safety boxes.

Walked over one at Crawford's yesterday. Looked nice underwater and the layout was great - apart from the sterndrive.

That one has been there a while now but would certainly give you a good indication of the boat.

There seems to be some good buying at the moment at that size of boat. There is a couple of Patriot 680's well under 100K at the moment. Maybe too big though.

If you are looking at any American boats have a look at The Hull Truth website, you will get lots of opinions on anything to do with American boats, motors and pretty well anything else.

I brought a 1999 model 2300 into the country last year, have since sold it but here are my opinions.

    The good:

Awesome fishing platform, the deck layout is superb.
Comfortable at rest and an awesome cruising boat in the right conditions
Huge oval fully plumbed live bait tank.
    Comfortable cabin with small kitchenette.
Reasonably dry boat, never experienced excessive spray over the screen.
Walkaround cabin layout is great, no more climbing through windscreens to pull the anchor.

    The not so good:

Extremely weight sensitive, continually on the tabs if anyone moved around the deck while underway. Would make for an uncomfortable trip if they ever failed
Small anchor well, I ended up using a braided rode so I could fit enough in.
The overhead console was a little low, had a couple of people mention it being in the way, being a short ass it didn't bother me.
No built in ice boxes and the kill tanks under the seats are to small. Would have been much better to have something built under the floor.
Poor quality fittings things like hinges, latches, hatches and mild steel seacock handles even found mild steel screws and clips holding things together.
Not the best riding boat, pounded heading into a moderate chop but was pretty good in a following sea. IMO has nothing on the Haines 243L, is no better than my mates Haines 213c and not much better than my old Haines 600R.

you will find lee that a lot of those items such as hinges etc have changed with the newer models.

I have the baby of the range ..only 18 1/2' and I love it.

Yeah I fugured they would have got better, mine was one of the first of the new shapes. I remember reading somewhere that Seaswirl was taken over by Genmar so maybe the quality control improved then.

You'll just have to watch widths if you plan on towing the medium and bigger size ones. I like the Alaska pack I think it is option of a full windscreen. After having a cabin on the Stabi then going back to boats with clears, no matter how good, they will still let water in.

Yep full windscreen and hardtop with no rear bulkhead.

I agree 100%. I am done with clears. They let water in and they are hard to see through, especially at night!
