Thread: Please teach me about TRIM TABS

Re: Please teach me about TRIM TABS

Bennett Trim Tabs operate the reverse of what you might think. The port trim tab lowers the starboard bow. Conversely, the starboard trim tab lowers the port bow. The control is wired so that all you have to do is press the control in the direction you want the bow to move. The proper use of Bennett Trim Tabs becomes second nature after a short time....

This is straight from the bennett's site.

when you press the right bow down button the left tab will go down that is how it should work..

On the other hand Lenco Trim Tabs seem to go out of their way to not confuse the issue and just keep it simple for the average boaty!

my bennetts work the same way as the lenco's

If one side of the boat is higher than the other while running, press Bow Down on the switch on that side. This lowers the tab on the listing side (low side) to bring the boat level.( quote from lenco site)

people just need to understand that the bow going down is controlled from the opposite side tab.

if the port tab goes down the port stern will lift and the starboard bow will go down.

as far as I know all tabs work at controlling a boat the same way it is only the switch that can be wired differant.

Mick this could go on forever.
Yours are wired fine by the sounds of it,
Dont think about bow down or up.
Use the tabs as they are designed and that is with the left switch operating the left tab .
DOWN means what the tab is doing.
You will quickly get to know what happens when you push a tab down a little.

It all seemed arse about when I got mine but dont even think about it now.

You would think that the two most popular tabs of their day would not need to operate on opposite controls, but by the sounds of it they do,
In any case you own this brand so thats what you have to learn with whether they are less logical than lencos or not.
I would not go fiddling with the wiring as that is the weak link in the system anyway,
    Good luck.
