Hey matey -- had abit of experience with these old girls on mine sites -- keep it simple , if you think you may have an issue with tyres the easiest and cheapest check is to run the tyres front to back. IMO the swivel housings will generally not cause a shimmy or shudder thru the steering wheel unless they're gunna fall off ! after that i would check steering tag link ,the tie rod ends that come off your pitman arm and to the drag link are adjustable they have a split pin securing an internal screw so they can be adjusted .these are fully rebuildable parts are available from Toyota or maybe someone like Repco not to much involved ---try and adjust them --first you need to remove the L/H wheel, remember not to tight they need some clearance I just give em a good dose of CRC first pull out the split pin ,use one of those square shank large screwdrivers and an adjustable spanner tighten the screw until it contacts the ball stud firmly and then undo the screw one full turn -- make sure that its not binding on the ball stud and give it a bit of grease if you don't have any success you may need to pull them apart they get full of crap and the spring inside binds REMEMBER TO PUT THE SPLIT PIN BACK IN !! if the split pin dosn't go thru the screw driver slots in the cap screw when your done the tie-rod end is worn out and will need rebuilding or replacing the other thing is that if you have fitted a lift kit the steering geometry will have changed slightly but generally unless you've lifted it stupidly like 100mm++ wedging axles and fitting castor/camber adjustors is a last resort -- and expensive!! good advice from the other guys as well check all the simple things --U bolts--front and rear, steering tie-rod ends on the drag link, the slip joints and coupling on the steering column may be worn not the first time I've seen one of those rubber discs flogged out hope this helps cheers

Re: Landcruiser Shudder
have had a similar problem with my hilux when i had it. if you have a two piece rear drive shaft, i'd be having a quick look at the centre bearing, it might be seized and flopping around in the housing. you'll pick it by going underneath and grabbing the shaft and moving it around in the housing by hand. if this is your issue it should be pretty cheap to fix, you'll need a rattle gun and a puller to get the flange off, change over the bearing/housing and connect it back up.

Re: Landcruiser Shudder
hey paddles -- Hilux are a different story the two piece prop shaft on the rear shouldn't cause a shimmy/shudder thru the steering just ususally sounds like something thumping under-neath when you accelerate -- as well 75's only have one piece prop-shafts front and rear any issues with balance or alignment usually sends it thru the seat of your pants and gets worse the faster you go steering gets harmonics-- depanding on tyres ,road surfaces, speed , wear in components etc etc and gives the symptoms old mate has as certain speeds ---hilux also have adjustable tie-rods depending on the model -- the older R/LN65--109 have them on the drop link from the steering box to the steering arm on the R/H side the later ones with IFS have rack & pinion so another set of different issues with them cheers
