I liked a place called Turkey Beach wall to wall saltwater creek and ocean accessible fishing and plenty of holiday rental houses along this small seaside town. And being not far from Gladstone it's close to area's like Awonga Dam for a freashwater change as well
    Turkey Beach postcode 4678
Google earth looks it awesome for crabbing as well

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Up here we Use Hussar as baits for real RED FISHS (SHSIIFDER)

Hi Bettsy, last Christmas I went to Yamba with my family on a fishing holiday. It was a great little spot and wasn't too busy in the peak season. There are some great houses to rent in Yamba on the canal. There are several with their own boat ramp and lock up garages. Check the local realestates for these rentals. We caught a feed every day fishing in the eustary / river.

I also go quite often to Hervey Bay, have family up there. It has all tyoes of fishing on offer and day trips to Fraser Island if you have a boat.

Quiet at new years, that makes it hard. If Evans is close enough for you maybe have a look at Wooli or Mini Water. Bit smaller towns but like most coastal towns will still have campers in the caravan parks. Also Arrawarra (Spp), a bit further south is nice. All these smaller towns are within an hour of Evans and offer a bit of fishing variety and should be quieter than Evans which fills up over the Xmas Hols. Good luck but all coastal towns down this way will be busy.

Last trip north we did quite a serious recy arround the area south ofGladstone. Turkey is a bit... um.... blokey......if you are into fishing....great, ripper. but not much in the way of landscaping 1 decent genearl store and getting a decent capachino....mmm well

agness waters /1770 is a bit ..... um ... well...... home & away.....heaps of good looking teenagers and backpackers.

Tannum sands......now that is not a bad joint at all... the foreshore has been very nicely done, picknic tables, walknig tracks, reasonable shopping, clean tidy and miles of beach......there is a very nice ( the Mrs like her comforts, She thaught it was nice) caravan park down near wild cattle creek (walk to fish) ( sites, caravans, cabins)
There is a very tidal estury and lots of it, handy to gladstone and lake awonga.
We went back for a second look at Tannum......I have been advised that we will be returning there for a week some time......no arguments it should fish well.

    cheers

For a family type retreat with fishing look up Boambee Bay Resort near Coffs.

just as long as they remember the two important things about NSW.

    The road heading north.

and the main function of NSW
    .
    .
    .
keeping the Victorians at a comfortable distance...

Unfortunately at certain times of year the buffer zone gets breached too many times and you have to go to NSW to get away from the caravanning victorians.

One trip north....I counted 26 victorian turtles (slow moving and carrying there homes on their backs) in a row comming the other way.

    cheers
