    Cracked hull

After last weeks trip found small crack in hull about 1 inch on the bottom weld not happy. Just about to call my boat builder to see if he will help me out it. I am also going to call my insurance company to find out what the go is. After everything i have read it seems that once they start it's hard hard to stop as it will almost certainly crack next to the new weld, hoping for a different ending. As most of my fishing is done offshore and I am off to brooms head in a few weeks I hope it will be ok. Has any one used their insurance for a similar claim.

    Hi GaG

How old is the hull and what make and model and where do you use it?

Maybe its one of those thats not really meant to be out in the rough stuff but more at home in rivers and creeks.

Going to your insurer would be an interesting tack. Guess it depends on what the sales brochure specifies the boat is supposed to be good for and then the "fit for purpose' issue can be considered.

Be keen to hear what your insurer has to say. Maybe they might be able to bring some force to bear if your problem is common in the model / brand.

If Club Marine and others of their size determined that they would no longer cover "x" model / brand due to common faults and them being "unseaworthy" perhaps these issues could be made to stop happening.

    Cheers

It is a solid make 3mm all round I it is the not the boat manufacures fault as the d--k h--d drivewr hit somthing pretty hard a while ago which would of caused this. My boat builder is going to look at it next week should not be a problem where the crack is so will not go through insurance as $200 excess then prem goes up not to mention how long it will take them .

Also have a look at all your keel rollers, there has been many an alloy boat crack because the boat wasn't supported evenly along the keel! Also being 3mm is it a pressed tinnie? If so it is my opinion that they all will crack over time, any boat that flexes to any extent will crack along welds, even the thicker brands like trail craft crack!

    Hi GaG,
Sorry to hear of the cracks. Must say you did a sterling job keeping up with me the other day at the bar. Hope you get things sorted out.

    Thumbs up Re: Cracked hull

I dropped the boat back to my boat builder and he has repaired it. He cleaned it all out and did a great job only $80 how good is that.
I have pulled all the floor, floatation and fuel tank out perfect time to give it a good clean and also clean out the under floor tank just in time for 10 days at brooms head.
Checked the trailer out and found that some of the rollers had moved so will fix those up as well.
My insurance mob was going to charge $200 excess then my premium would rise and not to mention how long it would take i am glad i did not go down that path.
