Depends on the current & on how deep the water is.....I can get 1/8 down to 20m with no current and 1/4 with some current....if your talking about 7 inch gulps you would could be fishing 20 - 50m - so any jighead size from 1/4 to 5/8 depending on current....
I use the 1/2oz in up to 30m around Moreton.
Out wide when I'm lucky enough to get there 1 to 1 1/2oz.

As the others have said it depends on conditions. I can float them in shallow areas on 1/4's or up to 1 1/2 in deep areas with a bit of current

So I guess when fishing in 50-90 meters on a drift 30km from land I'll probably need 1 1/2 ounce heads?
Like the others have said, weight will depend on current and depth to be fished. One other important thing is to use a suitable sized hook, something that will cover 1/3 to 1/2 the length of the lure, a 7/0 or 8/0.

The weight of the line can also make a difference.
90m of 50lb is going to have more water drag on it than 90m of 30lb.
Just take heaps of options and see what works on the day!
Last time out I had jig heads from 1/2 through to 8oz.
I have never actually used a jig larger than 2oz though...

I use these a fair bit and generally use 3/4 oz TT's with plenty of hook eg 7/0 and do the majority of my work from 30 to 45 m. Take a close look at the Cobia in my Avatar, the very same combination.
However when the tide and wind are up, I go up to 1 oz.
The 7" Gulps with 3/4 oz TT's are dynamite floating like you would a pillie from an anchored boat.
They are a big placcie, so don't be afraid of using heaps of hook.
The big secret, as with all SP's is to take the time to present it properly on the jig head, measure twice, pin once.
