Has anyone had any issues with the 14 pin remote control harness/cowl trim switch/main power relay fuse blowing on their 115 hp Optimax?
I was recently fishing at the 4 beacons, the boat was idling and the next thing it stopped. I thought this was strange and went to restart the motor but had no power to the outboard (lights, radio, bilge pump all ok)at all resulting in a tow back with VMR.
Once back I found the mentioned fuse blown, local dealer replaced the fuse but could not give a reason why the fuse had blown.
Boating over the weekend resulted in no issues with the outboard.
Yes a good idea is to carry some spare fuses.I carry three of everything in the blade type and glass.Get to know where all your fuses are on your boat this will save you in the future.Good to here the weekend was trouble free,it was one not to be missed.Jim
I blew the same fuse in Merc 115 4-stroke. I was stuffing around with a trim guage at the time and touched two wrong terminals. I purchased new fuses from Repco $3 for 5 of them. Put it in and never had trouble again. Have now got spares on board incase it happens again. regards Adam
I am not familiar with the 115hp opti javelin but check your handbook to see what amp rating fuse you should be using. The 135hp has 4 fuses under the cowl 3 that are 20amp and 1 at 5 amp.Jim
Fuse blown again!!!!!!!!!!!!! However we have found the problem.
The trim and tilt wires running through the throttle handle were not secured correctly. Therefore the wires were subjected to rubbing causing wires to be exposed, creating the short.
But i trust you had the spare fuse on board this time Javelin.Wherever there are Gremlins it is only a matter of time before they rear their ugly head, glad you found the problem.Jim
