Re: Cracked blank tip
What blank is it (material, model, taper) and have you trimmed it at all prior to building it?
Without this info, the answers to your questions are :
1. Possibly
2. Possibly
3. Definitely not

Re: Cracked blank tip
Greg it is a Calstar Grafighter GF600M, fast taper, not 100% sure on material but I think it may be a graphite/E glass blank.
No I didn't trim it before starting so if I have to it will become a trolling rod.
I really hope I can trim it, what a shame if it is stuffed.
Thanks

That section of the tip is now stuffed. Trim 45mm from the tip and re-glue new tip on. As you mentioned, it will make a good troll rod. Nothing can be done with a longitudinal split in any blank make or model.

Re: Cracked blank tip
As stu has said. Trim the tip and re designate it use. 45mm from that particular blank will totally changed the behaviour of the rod. Just a tip..make sure you dont trim it at the exact point you can see the crack stop. There is bound to be some fibre damage internally...so go an extra 5 or 10mm.
One of the methods custom rod builders use to change the performance or characteristic of a blank is to trim either the butt or the tip....and with some blanks that can be as little as 25mm. Hence my question about what blank it is. And dont use side cutter or pliers to trim it...that will crush the blank and further weaken it.
Cheers

Re: Cracked blank tip
ok repair is complete and no sign of further cracking when putting some good flex in the blank. Let's hope she all holds together when I get a good fish on it!!
