Had a day with the family chasing winter whiting around the compass adjustment buoy. They were fairly hard to find but ended with 21 for a feed. Threw back a few along with some undersized lizards and squire.
Kids had fun and conditions were great.

Was a great feed, even had some leftovers for sandwiches today. Size was not real big, probably only ran from 20cm to 25cm - some of the smaller ones we only kept because of the way they had been hooked.Originally Posted by Is Don Is GOOD

It's a bit of a shame the whiting fishing in the bay. I can remember going out and being about to catch 50-60 good whiting in the bay in any number of places in a couple of hours. Now they seem few and far between and with worm prices being extortionate it doesn't seem too productive.
I guess years of people taking 300+ whiting in a day and freezing them for the next few months and excessive netting have hurt the stocks.
a nice feed anyway champ. I certainly miss those summer whiting that used to frequent the shallows around Bishop Is. There's a cracker spot that is now somewhere covered with 40 foot shipping containers
