    Classsic Sandhills feed

    Greetings interested parties,

my father and i shot over to the sandhills around 8.00am monday, dropped the pots and went looking for some whiting. was slow at first with nothing doing where we have found them the last few years. made a quick move in a bit closer to an old spot that has produced before, only had 7 on the first few drifts before we found them and anchored up. We caught our bag over the next hour or so with some good quality fish up around 28-30cm. fish bit on thin strips of squid and frozen worms, didnt even get a chance to crack open the live worms.

with the whiting taken care of and plans already made to stay the night we went and checked the pots for only 4 crabs, so we moved a string to soak for the night and head up the gutter for a mackeral fish (got two schoolies) and to settle in for the night in style at kooringal.

up early to catch the tide and we were on our way back up the gutter. great trip for spotting marine life with big squid, spotted rays, turtles (one eating a small sandy ) all in abundance.

decided to just pull the pots and head for home as we had our bag of whiting and had no luck on the floaters the day before. Pots had another 20 crabs in them and were back across a glassed out bay and home by 9.30am

Thats a top feed you have put together. You certainly know how to play all the options. A few of those Calamari and the meal would have been complete

are u serious, because im laughing my arse off.

good feed mate, we bagged out on whiting and we too took 20 pernight on the sandies on sunday.
had plenty of squid follow our whiting to the boat as well, but they wouldnt take a jig.maybe i should make a whiting jig.
just one thing about leaving your pots out there,we caught an old fuzzy haired drunk bastard red handed checking our pots there sunday morning.
we were drifting no more then 60 metres from our string and this tinnie went zooming past with pots stacked 4 -5 high.as he got to our 1st pot he circled her and then started pulling it in.so we wind in and shoot over to him as he's just finished getting the pot in the boat when we start yelling crap at him,he just throws it over the side and says' you fella's catching any fish' . me and mate looked at each other and just said what do we do.we have always said that if we finally catch someone one day we would sink there boat and let them ride the current home but we couldn't do anything to this bloke.
so he just went and ran his pots in and continued on his way.
anyway, next time we will definately put the anchor through the bottom of these a holes boats when we catch em.

    thanks guys

we were reasonably satisified to leave the pots down overnight because of the tides and staying at kooringal we thought it would be a good chance that we would be first to them.

pots were in 7-9m of water. Our northern string fished best in about 8.5m. Starfish were around, but not in every pot. They seemed to be worse in the 7m range. The most productive pots had no starfish in them and 6-8 keepers. Also good to see numerous jennys heavily berried.

Buy yourself a boat, and stop harassing anyone on here that puts up a post about crabing. If someone wants to take you out, you will be invited!

    same depths 8-9m.
    no starfish
he did come from south moreton/north straddie way and continued to head towards redcliffe/bribie.
his boat looked a bit like the one in two dogs avatar?

    MMaaaattteee!

Nice looking feed of crab. Are you still using dillys which are still legal, but if not, what pots? I have the old mud crab pots collapsible style but I know I will have to invest in a few that can catch sandies.

Appreciate the help if you can?

Love a feed of sandies.. I should never look at photos like yours just before dinner LOL
