Neglected Gulps

I left a couple of packets of Gulp Jerkshads on the boat for a month and they are now sporting colourful colonies of mould.

Has anybody fished with a mouldy Gulp? Did you catch fish on it? Did you wash it first?

Dare I put the mouldy orphans into a bottle of Gulp Alive, or will the rotten apples ruin the whole barrel?

I think it's probably best to just get rid of them, fish are skittish little fellas. if they detect an unusual scent they may be too wary to take the lure.

I find that if i have a soft plastic kicking around the tackle box for too long it's collects all sorts of contaminants ie. wd40, oils and perhaps mould as in you case, and they are generally ineffective.

Shame, because these gulps aren't cheap.

Who knows...the new colony of mould may be the next big thing RE scented lures???

I have used mouldy Gulps. The Bream still take them, but nothing else really wants to have a taste - Neither would I .

Don't worry about the new 'scents' they've matured putting off the fish, both you and I know what sort of things people catch reefies on up here, including cheerios, chicken bones, cheese, etc and the fish would have never seen/smelled anything like the aforementioned baits before

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll throw away the worst ones and keep a few that aren't so bad, and deploy them next time I'm offshore. I once caught a nanny on a piece of lunch ham, so I guess anything's possible!
