    Raymarine at speed

Any help would be appreciated. Usual story. Just bought new Raymarine A50D, and no bottom reading over about 400RPM. Tried the tducer at the level of the bottom of the boat and also about 6-8mm below bottom of the boat. It's mounted on the sounder brakcet of the boat, which is a 469 Nomad MP. THe unit I took off was only a cheap Navman, but it didn't get bottom readings either. Just thought with this brand I could get the bottom at speed. ANy suggestions as I said would be much appreciated. Anyone facing the same prioblem or solved the same problem and how?

Post a pic of the transducer mate(From couple of different angles).

    Some things to check:

    - Not mounted behind strake
    - Too close to engine
    - Wrong angle
    - Not deep enough.

It looks too low to me. Go into the fishfinder menu and settings and choose the highest ping rate. That should help.

Hi Sheik - Agree it looks low, and you'll also be getting turbulent water at speed where it is atm...preference would be in the middle(In between) of the ribs/strakes.

    Re: Raymarine at speed

Go to fishfinder in the menu button and select ping rate from there.
Just watch too that your trannie doesnt kick up too easily at speed. that will lose it for you as well. I have that same transducer on my raymarine and it is always kicked up when I get out . I have a thru hull furuno which I normally use. I set the ping to disable on the raymarine. I did try locking it in place and ended up with one less transducer.
    good luck, Brendan

    Re: Raymarine at speed

It is very important to get clean water to the transducer. I would suggest the flat area to the right would be better and make sure that it is tilted forwards just a little more than flat with the bottom of the boat. The height should also be "the leading edge half way down from the transom".

    Cheers

    Hey Brendan

put a short self tapper in one side, to stop it flipping up. if you hit something solid, it will still break free and flip up, but won't cause you dramas any more

    cheers
