    Hinchinbrook fishing trip

    Hi all,
I am heading up to Hinchinbrook for the first time with some mates next week, we will be based at the marina at Point Hinchinbrook. Has anyone goy any tips to fish the reefs, eg; tackle, braid or mono, bait supply ( live or dead ), soft plastics, lures. Also estery fishing if the weather turns bad.

Any info to this area would be a great help for us first timers up there.

    regards

    Sam.

    Hey Sam,

What size boat are you bringing with you? The weather isn't looking too flash atm for the reef fishing but if you can get out there try fishing the drop-offs that hold the most bait. when fishing for trout if you don't get any in the first 10 mins don't get to put off try burleying for them.. The trout are being very picky at the moment and are hard to find but if you have the patience to burley them up they will come to you.. if you fish the palms try to fish the shows in the deeper water as the palms are pretty heavily fished by the spearo's who take most of the better fish from the shallows.. as for tackle we fish with pretty heavy stuff as we use the same gear for the red’s and only bait fish.. my setup is a TLD20 with 60lb braid with 80lb leader with 2 hooks in a paternoster rig, hooks and sinkers depend on the size of fish and the current.. as for bait as fresh as you can get it.. also somewhere worth fishing is the end of the sugar loader jetty, fish here at night with live squid and you can get some monster finger mark (be prepared to lose some gear to the pylons though) as for the estuary’s try fishing the bluff at night (the big rock face on Hinchinbrook island up Lucinda end) or haycock island if chasing fingermark of grunter, if chasing jacks or barra’s your just going to have to explore, try find any drop-offs along current lines and fish them with live and slab mullet on the first of the incoming tide and hold on. Let us know if you have any other questions…
