G'day all, still trying to figure out best tranny option for my 585. Given i want to go 1kw if i can i'm thinking maybe thru hull is the best to get away from the 4kg shoe box size deal hanging of the back. Can't seem to find a plastic 1kw thru hull unit from either furuno or airmar?? or maybe i'm not looking hard enough.
Has anyone mounted a stainless thru hull in an allow hull, they say you can on their web site with "addequate insulation" but just wanted to see if anyone has?, given the electolosis risk??
One of the commercial blokes down here did it with a bronze 1kw unit, it needs to be isolated with rubber and will probably require ongoing inspection and put somewhere where it wont affect the performance of the hull. This boat was moored so trailer rollers/skids were not a problem, unfortunately the transom job may be the most practical stress free option
Thanks fellas, i'll give Dave at riptide a call and see what he reckons and see what he done on any of his others hulls. Theoretically it should be fine in stainless with a film of insulation, trouble is the pic don't really show much close detail of the tranny or talk about mounting in allow which makes me nervous.
