it never ceases to amaze me the amount of people I talk to coming home from a fish as I am going out that say they didn't get anything or very little .but this would be because they fish "business hours"
congrats on the fish by the way

I am not new to fishing (amatuer at best) but new to fishing in Moreton Bay. After 30 odd years the gods smiled on me and I finally purchased a boat. This started the rooster in me, crowing to the wife how I would be bringing home ' THE FISH'. To that end I would say the level of dissapointment on my part and the endless laughter and taunts from her part indicates my success.
So began my exploits to learn, regular visits to Ausfish reading current and old forums, learning how to use a depthsounder correctly, tying knots in braid (still enjoy this one) and where to when to fish the Bay. I mustn't say that I never catch fish, but 1 legal fish every so often doesnt really install confidence, expecially when it was most likely fouled hooked. One of my faviroute sayings that I have learnt on Ausfish is "Business Hours" and guys that fish them. Well thats me, due to family commitments I generally fish Buisness hours.
That was until Wednesday, a chance popped up and I grabbed it with both hands, and my left foot. With that in place (and with wifes approval of course) my neighbor and I decided to head for an afternoon fish. I popped into a local tackle store, they were great, gave me some tips and put my onto some plastics that have been working well in the area.
Sunset around 1740 and low tide at 1830. We left home at 1500, on the water and fishing by 1400 at Peel Island.
1st cast, I don't even think the plastic hit bottom and I was on, rod bent and smile on my face. Drag was pulling and tink - he had put me under something (that's what I told myself, didnt want to think it was my knot).
Next 1.5 hours saw us land 9 Snapper and 1 Pike (live bait), we kept 5 Snapper and returned the rest. Sizes were from 36cm - 41 cm (most were 38). I know this is not a huge catch but there was enough fish for to feed my neighbour and my families.
Fished the live pike over the low tide, night was getting on and the neighbour had an early start so no luck with him.
Hoping to repeat the same again soon, and looking for some bigger ones too.

IF IT CAN'T EAT A WHOLE PILLY I DON'T WANT IT
It's an awesome feeling when you can say 'Yes - I caught a good feed of snaps'......for all those times you head out confident and then to return with nothing - this sort of makes up for it....in that you appreciate your catch even more....well done...
Keep hitting the forums and tacklerats and you'll be hauling in your bag limit in no time, good feed of snaps (squire we should really say) is something to feel good about, well done.
Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.
