    Yes, yes and yes
Mitch we get baby blacks around 50-90kg a couple of times a year in very shallow water at a few local mackerel spots when the doggies are about and when the big schools of rainbow runners move in close, sometimes sailfish in the same spots as shallow as 15-20m on occaision, I tried to keep a basic data base on them but there is not enough of them caught in any spot to target them alone
spanish, wahoo, dolphinfish, northern blues and yellowfin are more common

we get threadies all the time in the Fitzroy and occaisionally at Coorooman or Waterpark creeks
we get jacks at several places but we don't get as many as SE Qld
we get big fingermark more often instead
we also get barramundi (Dan Powel tagged over 1600 in the last year) in pretty well all the creeks and the river even right in the middle of Rocky
just look at the captag or capreef data to see whats here

    you could do worse

    cheers

I moved back here a year ago. I rate it well above SEQ.

Getting your boat to a ramp is no hassle. There is no traffic problems here.

Fishing a spot without a dozen other boats is the norm unless it's mackeral time and some clown has written about it in the paper.

    Re: Rockhampton

Whilst I agree in principle with everything IFISHCQ says above, the place isn't really known for Billfish, or other bluewater species. Yes I know people who have caught baby blacks and wahoo, but they are the exception not the norm.

The continental shelf is just too far out for the real blue water to be accessible form CQ. However if you don't mind trailering your boat when you need the fix of chasing a few marlin or wahoo, you can get down to 1770 and then out to the shelf from there much easier.

On the plus side there is amazing reef fishing and good catches of mackeral and cobia mostly year-round.

I guess it depends a lot on what sort of fishing you like and what size boat you have, but the fishing around the Yeppoon area in reality is pretty damn good.

As for congestion at the ramp, whilst it is generally OK, there are still some days you want to stay far away from the place......Easter weekend and Boxing Day being a couple of notables!

    Re: Rockhampton

We do get a fair few small blacks but its hard to target them because everything else gets in the way.

You can always swing over to fish like GT's if you want a bit of gamefishing.

Thanks Everyone, I wasn't expecting so many reply's. Casting and site fishing is my favurate passtime, Billfish are just a seasonal fad and a way of making extra money from my lures.
I'll know by December if the move is definate.

Those some great GT's mate, I've never landed one that serious before.
As for work, I'm still looking, I have one job in mind but the finer details still need to be worked out before I commit.
Back to the subject of GT's, I have made a lure that will drive them crazy. I haven't produced it as a commercial product yet though.
